Hello, brothers and sisters. I am Madness and welcome to my kingdom.
Let me ask you a question: Is not Fluttershy entitled to stay single as she pleases?
"No," says the FlutterDash shipper, "She belongs with Rainbow Dash."
"No," says the FlutterCord shipper, "She belongs with Discord."
"No" says the chronic shipper, "She belongs with everyone."
I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose to go against the social flow. I chose the impossible. I chose... the Kingdom of Madness. A place where all non-canon romances are unwelcomed. I place where shipping has no place. Now, you may be wondering why I chose this? Why do I reject all shipping? Well, let's look at that from the root up.
There was a time when I was a shipper as well. I shipped a few things, but my OTP was Jelsa. Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians with Elsa from Frozen. Everything about it made sense and I shipped them like crazy. However, as time passed, I started to lose interest in shipping save for Jelsa, but even that changed after I realized how ridiculous shipping had become. Of course, I already knew it could be ridiculous
First, there was the ships that were just disgusting and depraved. So many people were shipping incest and pedophilia like is was nothing. Anna X Elsa... Doofenshmirtz X Phineas... Rarity X Sweetie Belle! For goodness sake, is there no line! What kind of vile, depraved lunatic ships that?! 
And then there's the abusive stuff. In Attack On Titan, the most popular ship is Levi X Eren. Not only is that gross and disturbing because Eren's 15 and Levi's 30, but the shipping frenzy started when Levi beat the crap out of Eren, which gives the ship very abusive undertones. I understand BDSM, put those people need to understand that other people take serious issue with the glorification of abusive relationships.
And then there was that this was what the Draco In Leather Pants trope stems from. How do people express their extremely stupid thoughts of "Oh, he's not evil; just misunderstood"? By shipping the evil maniac with someone! Yeah, Sombra is a sadistic tyrant filled with hatred and malice, but surely one of the mane six could change him. Yeah, Light Yagami is a mass-murderer with a god-complex, but surely L or one of the girls can change him. Yeah, Joker is a pure evil psychopath, but surely Batman...... Actually, I've never seen Batman and Joker actually shipped together. Well, maybe Joker himself does, but still. Yeah, there's nothing wrong with any of this. In fact, why don't we ship Adolf Hitler with Mother Teresa? Surely, she could change him. 
I hate the DILP trope because of how it tries to justify characters that have no justification and the shipping is their go to of expressing it.
I noticed these things and, of course, It bothered me, but I simply steered clear of it. But then, as I moved away from shipping, I realized more things. Things that made shipping as a whole undesirable to me. Things that filled me with frustration. It was three strikes and they were out.
The first strike was that people were shipping everything for little to no reason. If even the slightest bit of platonic affection is shown, people would immediately be like "I SHIP IT!". Some would go into bullcrap about 'subtext' and 'alternate character interpretation'. Some wouldn't even bother with anything. Rainbow kisses Fluttershy on the nose? FlutterDash! Anna and Elsa love each other? ElsAnna! Oh, a cute picture of Rarity and Button Mash? RariMash! All it takes is the tiniest of things to get shippers going. 
The second strike was that it was everywhere! Every fandom filled with OTPs and such. Here I am trying to appreciate what this show/movie is all about and then there's these people who can only look at what characters they want to ship. As if that's what it's all about. If they had their way, the show would be degraded into nothing but a romance war!
The third strike was people acting like their ships are canon. That's where the 'subtext' comes in. All these chicken heads talking about what ship is more canon. Maybe Discord became evil because Celestia didn't want to go out with him? Maybe Maud and She Who Shall Not Be Named secretly like each other and share a kite fetish? Maybe when Twilight told her friends she loves them all, she meant she wanted to have an orgy party with them? Or maybe, just maybe, you people should accept that your ship ain't canon and stick with your fanfics instead of making jackasses of yourselves? Oh, and I love how some people will complain about this and then go do it themselves.
"Ugh, I can't believe people are talking about FlutterDash being canon. It makes me sick...... NOW, LET'S TALK ABOUT HOW FLUTTERCORD IS TOTALLY CANON! HUHUHUHAHA!" 
All these things added up and I simply couldn't deal with it anymore. It's all goes together to make my point, which is that shipping ruins the experience? Five Night's At Freddy's was a brilliant game that was made into a joke by the furry fandom and it all started with shipping. People were so determined to see Harry and Hermione together that they went so far as to send death threats to J.K. Rowling, as if their ship was worth it. Anna and Elsa's wonderful sisterly relationship is tainted by what shippers try to make it out to be. And don't get me started with the Sonic fandom. Show after show... Movie after movie... Fandom after fandom, ruined by the shipping.
That's why I hate shipping. That's why I abandoned it. It's because... Shipping. Ruins. Everything!
But, be that as it may, I'm the only one who feels this way. I have never meet anyone else who is totally against shipping. This time, I have no back up. No one to relate to. Meanwhile, the shipping goes on and on. No lines drawn. No stopping. And it's there every time I get on my laptop! It's just so... SO......
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
I'm sick and tired of the shipping. It became too much and I lost control.
It weights against my heart and weights against my very soul.
And when I see another ship set sail, it's a needle full of fresh new rage.
I took the book of Shipping 101 and I tore up and devoured every page!

Well, now that that's out of the way, thank you all for helping me reach 50 followers. It really makes me feel proud that I've reached so many in only a few months. Well, I can't say that I disagree with you, since you're right about people taking ships to gross, immoral levels such as what you've described (and people actuallybsending death threats? Really? People need to seriously grow up and see a psychiatrist).
I wouldn't say shipping itself has RUINED fandoms for me. Lapidot has always confused me in the SU universe; everyone has a strong belief that it'll happen, yet a lot of their interactions seem rather sisterly to me. Totally platonic. Not to mention that Peridot, too, is pretty much described to be a "kid". Thousands of years older than Steven and Connie, sure, but compared to the other Gems she's definitely young, so that always bothered me.
The beauty of fiction, both fan fiction and not, is that we can allow our fantasies to flourish as such. Sometimes, for me personally and those who DO ship, it's fun to make couples that make no sense. It's fun to ship our OCs with a canon character. In a way it gives us creative freedom to go nuts and wild. Can it go too far? Absolutely! But it's only really harmful when someone takes all of that too far.
This, however, seems like a very sensible reason to despise shipping (at least the non-canon ships from what I can understand). As I've said before, I respect your distaste and I'm glad to finally know your secret~.

Totally agree with the subtext bit; the least people can do is admit they think a couple is cute in spite logic and leave it at that. Don't involve character development. Does "Discord's evil because Celestia didn't wanna date him" make him sympathetic or pathetic?
I'm guilty with the "power of love will reform this evil cretin from hell", because I think the concept is adorable if done right. Its almost like "Beauty and the Beast", but altered, since the Beast was never evil. That's just my opinion though.
And boy, do I get you when stuff is "everywhere". I get that a lot with Sonamy and...*shudders*...Sonadow. Though to be fair this problem doesn't really stop at shipping; there was a time where the Internet seemed keen on me getting into The Miraculous Ladybug, and that got really annoying really fast. So yeah, too much isn't always a good thing.

Well, even though I don't think shipping ruins the experience, I have to say you make some very good points, and there is nothing objectively wrong with your argument. However, if there is one thing I personally disagree with, it's about Fluttercord. There are soooo many things that are suggestive of that, and it's almost like the writers want us to think Fluttercord. Especially in season 7 episode 12 when it was from Discord's point of view, almost kissing Discord. I know you're probably really mad reading this (see what I did there?), and I'm sorry about that, but that's just my opinion, and I definitely agree that some shipping is gross, and that side I try to avoid.
