A Simple Anwer

Some time ago, I told this one person how much I love MLP and of course other interests as well. I mentioned to them how I write fanfics and I love doing it. They would ask me, "Do you get paid?" or "How much do you charge?" When I reply nothing they would ask, "Why do you waste your time writing stuff for nothing in return?"

In a way I was insulted by this, but the fact is it isn't really a insulting or stupid question. Sometimes people just want or feel the need to understand. I simply replied, "Because it is a hobby and I enjoyed it." However, my reason for doing so is much deeper.

I could've replied with a question of my own; Why do you enjoy reading? Why do you play video games? Why do you write comments on a YouTube video?

That person may or may not provide me with the same reply I had for him.

Now, the point is, I do it because I enjoy it. I cannot deny the warm feeling I get when someone replies, "This is a pretty good read." or "Please write more!" Of course I received negative or offensive comments, but the good reviews certainly outweigh the bad ones.

My dream job was to entertain people in anyway that I can. The fact that I found a way, makes me happy and I don't care if it is for free. A warm comment is good enough for me. The fact that people have time to read or even bother to leave a review brightens my day... unless it is bad. Hahaha.

So do I waste my time? Perhaps so. However, if I enjoy it, I think it is a good use of my time. Am I really getting nothing in return? If I was, I would truly be wasting my time wouldn't I?

Whatever you all enjoy doing, please keep on doing it. I know it is hard out there and you might be harshly judged, but why care about what they say when it brings you such happiness? You are not wasting your time. I see it as, you are providing your own source of light in this dark world. Please do what makes you happy.
