    An unconnected scenelet

The moon had risen over Lyra and Bon Bon’s day trip to Canterlot. They had spent the morning and afternoon visiting Lyra’s parents (and Bon Bon’s in-laws) for lunch and conversation. When evening rolled around, they left to meet up with Lyra’s foalhood friends at a downtown tavern to celebrate the bonus that Lemon Hearts had received for expertly organizing the state dinner that helped

    Mutually Assured Discussion

Mid-mornings were for dropping off candy at Sugarcube Corner. The breakfast crowd was gone, so it gave Bon Bon a chance to briefly chat with the Cakes during a time that they weren’t overwhelmed by an onslaught of orders. The atmosphere probably would have been even quieter and more relaxed if she made her deliveries before the breakfast crowd arrived, but there was no way she was waking up that

I can too write a story in less than two months

Look out – I had a story inspiration for a contest in sufficient time to actually write the story before the contest's deadline!

Tell LyraBon About It (a supplementary one-scene story)

(there will be spoilers after the break)

Hello to everybody who read and enjoyed One Wavelength of the Rainbow! Your views and likes were much appreciated, and I too mourn the decrease in activity on Fimfiction that allowed one of my stories to make it into the featured box.

Deleted text from my most recent story

This was too much of a digression to include in One Wavelength of the Rainbow, but I didn't want to throw it out entirely. I'm sure other stories have addressed this subject more thoroughly and satisfyingly than the few paragraphs I've written here, but I do find it to be an interesting jumping-off point to think about.

Supplemental Scene: Lyra’s Friends Find Out · 6:20am Jul 18th, 2017

Because my job is keeping me busier this year than it did last year, writing the next novella is taking longer than anticipated. Rest assured that I am writing it, though, and barring some personal catastrophe, I will publish it. Eventually.

In the meantime, there are a couple of scenes in the life of Lyra and Bon Bon that I wanted to write, but I don’t have a place for them. They don’t fit in the story I’m currently writing and they don’t have enough plot to them to stand alone on their own.

Still, I want them to “happen.” So why not post them to my blog? I’m calling them “supplemental scenes” because they’re a part of my overall Lyra and Bon Bon Series, but they aren’t quite stories in and of themselves. This one, for example, doesn’t even have a real ending.

I’ll post the other one closer to when I’m ready to publish the next novella. But for now, please enjoy this scene that takes place shortly after the events of My True Self.

“My cheeks hurt.”

“That’s because you won’t stop smiling.”

“You mean can’t stop smiling. I just can’t wait to see their reactions. And anyway, smiling is supposed to be a good thing. Why is it that too much of it hurts?”

Lyra and Bon Bon were sitting next to each other on the train to Canterlot, on their way to meet Lyra’s foalhood friends for lunch. It was going to be only the second time that Lyra’s friends would eat lunch with Bon Bon – and the first time that the three unicorns would see the two since they began dating. When Lyra sent the letter confirming that they would stop by, she didn’t say anything about their new relationship. She wanted to be there when her friends first found out.

“Do you want me to try to make you frown?” Bon Bon asked.

“You? Make me frown? Good luck with that.”

With a slight dip of her head, Bon Bon acknowledged that Lyra had a point. Her smile was less intense than Lyra’s, but present all the same. In her case, it was primarily because she loved seeing her marefriend so happy.

Bon Bon asked, “So do I need to be prepared for anything?”

Lyra thought for a moment. “Well, they might not believe me at first. They’ve spent the past nine moons thinking you were into stallions.”

“And where would they have gotten an idea like that?” Bon Bon said with a sly grin. The couple had already admitted to one another how, during the prior months, they had each incorrectly assumed the other wasn’t interested in her romantically. Each had then expressed her regret at not saying something sooner, followed by assuring the other that her actions were perfectly understandable. It was like synchronized self-esteem-building.

“I have no idea,” Lyra said. “So you might have to do something before they’ll think we’re telling the truth.” She hastened to add, “Nothing major. Not like make out with me in public or anything.”

“Got it.”

“Although that might kind of turn me on.”

“Keep dreaming,” Bon Bon said. “See? I can make you frown.”

Lyra gave her a gentle shove, though not forceful enough to push her off the seat and into the aisle. Bon Bon shoved her back.

“Oh, and another thing,” Lyra said. “I’m sure they’re going to give me a hard time about keeping it from you for so long. And they’ll tell you that I had a huge crush on you. But no matter how big of a crush they say I had, don’t believe them.”

Bon Bon simply tilted her head and raised an eyebrow.

“It was even bigger.”

Because of road construction taking place near the train station, they didn’t reach the Canterlot Outdoor Café until a couple of minutes later than the usual meeting time, making them the last to arrive. They walked up to the usual table.

“Guess who has a marefriend?” Lyra announced in a voice that was as close to being sing-song as a pony could get without actually singing.

The three ponies already seated at the table smiled. Twinkleshine quietly sighed in relief. If Lyra was saying that in front of Bon Bon, then not only did that mean that Lyra finally came out to her, but that Bon Bon hadn’t had a problem with it.

“You, I would assume,” Lemon Hearts said.

Minuette had an enormous grin on her face. “So, who is it?” she asked.

Lyra simply placed her foreleg across Bon Bon’s withers and tipped her head toward her. Bon Bon did the same to Lyra. They both smiled toward the table.

Lemon Hearts’ expression changed to surprise. Twinkleshine’s mouth hung open. Minuette’s toothy smile turned into an open-mouthed smile.

“Yep,” Lyra said. She planted a kiss on Bon Bon’s cheek. With a blush, Bon Bon nodded.

Minuette got out of her chair. “Congratulations!” she said at the top of her lungs. Luckily, there was only one other table on the opposite side of the café occupied with ponies to turn their heads and stare. She stepped over and gave the two of them a hug. Lemon Hearts smiled and lightly applauded. Twinkleshine managed to close her mouth.

“But I thought you said…” Twinkleshine began.

“Turns out I was wrong,” Lyra said as Minuette returned to her seat. She turned her head toward Lemon Hearts. “Yes, yes, I know – you told me so.”

“You know what? I’m so happy for you, I’m not even going to say anything.”

“We need details!” Minuette said. “All of the details! Right now!”

“Can we at least sit down first?” Lyra said.

“Right now!”

“There aren’t really many details to tell,” Lyra said as she and Bon Bon took their seats at the table. “As soon as I got home after the wedding, I knocked on Bon Bon’s door to let her know I was fine. After we talked for a little while, I told her that I’m gay.”

Despite that not being a proper story, she had the three unicorns’ attention.

“At first, she was just quiet.” Lyra turned to Lemon Hearts. “I was about ready to hate you for wrecking the best friendship I’d ever had.”

Bon Bon cut in. “But the reason I was quiet,” she said, “was because I couldn’t believe what I had just heard. In a good way. And then I wondered whether Lyra felt about me the way I felt about her, or whether admitting how I felt would ruin what we already had. So I wasn’t sure whether I should say anything.”

Lemon Hearts snorted at that revelation. “You really are two of a kind, you know that.”

“How long was it before I said something?” Bon Bon asked Lyra. “It felt like forever.”

“I’ll say.”

“I’d never understood the phrase ‘time stood still’ before that. But it was probably really only a few seconds.”

“A few very long seconds.”

“But I told her that I’m gay, too.”

“And then we kissed,” Lyra said with a smile.

“And now we’re marefriends.”

They looked at each other adoringly.

“Awww,” Minuette and Twinkleshine said.

“Well, we were right that they’d make a cute couple,” Lemon Hearts said.

At nearly the same time, Lyra and Bon Bon both said, “She’s the cute one.” Upon hearing each other, they giggled.

Lemon Hearts rolled her eyes. “Did I mention that you’re two of a kind?”

“Wait a second!” Minuette suddenly said to Lyra. “You two have been dating ever since we last saw you? And you didn’t tell us until now?!”

“And miss out on this?” Lyra said, gesturing to the three of them. “Not a chance.”

Minuette smiled. “Oh, is that what we are to you? You use us as your source of entertainment?”

Bon Bon jumped in with a smile of her own. “Didn’t you just tell Lyra to give you all the details of how we started dating?”

“Hmph,” Minuette chuckled. After a pause, she said, “I don’t like your new marefriend, Lyra.”

They all laughed.

Yay! It's always nice to get more lyrabon banter. I was looking forward to a "reveal" scene, and I was a little sad we didn't see it in the story.

That being said, I think you could easily take this scene (and the next one), and publish them specifically as a "bonus/deleted scenes" story. That way I could upvote it!

Anyway. Happy to hear from you, even happier to get some fluff :pinkiehappy:
