Just your average british lad. I write things for a living. It’s the strangest living you’ll ever find, second only to my inability to take myself off of the grid.

Everyone's gushing so much over Tempest Shadow that they've forgotten about the Storm King... · 6:32pm Jul 11th, 2017

Luckily, IDW was happy to oblidge with the first of the MLP Movie Prequel Comics. And issue one is on none other than Liev Schreiber's character: The Storm King.

And after reading the comic, I think this movie's gonna be a good one...

So, with the Storm King's character overall, we didn't really have much of his character in the actual MLP Trailer, and as such, everyone was attracted to Tempest Shadow, a pony who is NOT the main villain, but rather the commander of the Storm King's army. Just so that we're clear on that. But I'm glad that the IDW comic exists to give this king the recognition and dark side that we so desperately need for the upcoming movie later this year.

With the Storm King's personality, he's basically got the gruff, philosophical, and brutish nature of Lord Tirek, but the playful and sly attributes of Discord. Ever wonder what would've happened if those two had a secret child in Twilight's Kingdom? There's the Storm King for you. A villain who not only fills the criteria of demonic lord of darkness, but also one with a little bit of eccentricity at times. I'm not really gonna say much about what he can do, because so far, all we've seen him do is command his fleet, raid a kingdom, and lead an army of apes with tribal mask faces. Kinda like if the monkey leader from the Planet of the Apes movies and Emperor Palpatine had a freakish baby. Man, two lovechilds in one paragraph? I shudder to think about who the rest of the family are, right?

As for his story, the Storm King didn't have Tempest Shadow anywhere on his fleet in the first issue of the prequel comics, and instead had a little stormcloud creature called Strife, and that kiss up badger Grubbler, which you may know announcing the arrival of Tempest. But back then, that little weasel was nothing more than a cabin boy, while Storm King and Strife ruled Gorilla Grodd's pack of albino apes.

Storm King believes that friendship is a curse that will drag you down, bite you in the arse, and one that he adamantly believes should not exist, in order for a tightly-knit and unquestioning empire. So, I imagine that in the upcoming movie, he and Twilight will have a verbal and physical smackdown over whether or not friendship really is all that good. Maybe not on the level as Twilight vs Tirek, but somewhere just below it. But despite this, his own follower, Strife, betrays him because he has his own goals, and that he sent Captain Celaeano's pirates towards the fleet to raid the Storm King of the stuff he had raided the other kingdoms for.

In a fit of rage, the Storm King picks up the bandicoot Grubber and demands that he fix the ship and pursue the pirates. Now, Grubber is the Storm King's second in command, but likely not for long when Tempest Shadow gets her prequel comic.

So, does this excite you for the Storm King? If so, then please be so to share your excitement with everyone. Have a good day!
