So, let’s talk about some more stuff that got added here with the last update: The emojis one can use now.
I need to address this..... “feature”, because it will bring a little change with how I handle comments that get written under my fics/blog entries and on my userpage. To make this as short as possible:
Please don’t use any emojis when you leave a comment anywhere on my account.
This does of course not count for the pony emoticons that are here since years. I’m talking about the smilies, food, flags and whatever symbols there are that got implemented on FIMFiction.net recently. I don’t want to see them getting used here on my account.
- If you leave them here, I will give you a warning at first and tell you to please edit the emojis out of your comment and to use actual words for whatever you want to say and I will give you a link to this blog entry to let you know about this rule. I will, however, not respond to anything you said in this comment, until the emojis have disappeared from it.
If you did not edit the comment after three days, I will delete it and send you a copy of what you wrote via PM in case you want to repost your comment without the emojis.
If you edit any emojis into your comment after I already responded to what you said, then I will remove the comment anyway without warning as soon as I become aware of the edit and I will send you a copy of the text.
- If you leave another comment containing emojis after I informed you about this rule and told you not to use emojis on my account, the comment will get deleted immediately once I see it without prior warning and you receive the text of the comment from me.
- I won’t block you for simply using emojis on my account and will leave it at warnings and comment deletions. However, there is one exception to this, if you spam my fics or blog entries or my userpage with emoji-filled comments, be it to protest against this rule of mine or to troll me for it, I WILL block you.
You can appeal this block by sending me a private message via temporary or secondary account, but I will only give you one chance to appeal such a block. If you spam me with emojis a second time, the block will be permanent and I will block all of your alternate accounts you use to write me as well.
- Finally, I can’t prevent you from sending me messages that contain emojis and I will still not block you for doing this. But I will also not respond to the message, unless you send me another message with the same text, but without the emojis. I will also delete any messages with emojis in them without reading them.
And I apply the same exception as above, if you spam me with emoji-filled messages to protest against this rule or to troll me, I will block you and you will only get one chance to appeal this block and to not do it a second time. The second ban will again be permanent and I will block all alternate accounts you have and use to write me.
I know this will seem harsh to many of you, since you probably see the emojis as a harmless, little feature for the purpose of having fun, but I have good reasons for not wanting to have emojis on my account, which are simple:
1. I think it is very obvious to everyone that the support for emojis on FIMFiction.net is done in preparation of knighty’s general fiction site plans. knighty wants to make FIMFiction.net mundane and mainstream, to appeal to outside audiences and potential users from other fandoms that he will need if his general fiction site plans should be a success.
I am not in support of those plans, as they alter FIMFiction.net’s identity and destroy its soul and heart, so I’m not in support of the emojis that are a part of this plan either.
2. I am not very active in any social networks and never used emojis myself, but I know enough about those to tell that they are commonly used to replace words in messages and comments in order to send them off faster, by people who are too lazy to type.
As a passionate author who values and loves the written word, I am not in support of such lazyness and of the downfall of actual language in the Internet.
If I write a fanfic about Derpy eating pizza and you want to comment on this fic, then don’t use a pizza emoji. You can just type the word “pizza” to say what you think about the fic.
This is just an example, this goes for anything else as well. Type a word, don’t use an emoji.
I really don’t wanna have to remove comments here and I’m not completely comfortable with the thought of doing this.
But seeing those things here would make me even more uncomfortable, FIMFiction.net is a pony fiction site, not a social network.
So, please don’t include emojis in any comments you leave anywhere on my account and not in messages you send me. Usage of emojis will be met with the full brute force that is detailed above.
I get ya, I prefer to stay with the pony emoticons. I like the change with the PM that the messages won’t get deleted anymore after 100. But the tag colors, the character pictures and the story statistics should have stayed

I am very afraid that they will leave soon, too..... At least, I will download all of them right now, together with the old character tags and the old genre tags that can still get accessed via the fic creation page and then, once all of this is gone, will upload them on my own webspace and offer them here, so that me and others can include them in their own fics and their descriptions still.
I can’t find words for what is happening here..... This general fiction site plans kill a whole community and one of the most big and important aspects of our fandom’s culture; an own dedicated fiction site for our franchise, something no other fandom has.

Is it just me, or are the tag gors for dark, adventure etc. suddently not blue anymore but in their old colors?

A few got changed their colors just now. Not sure if he will do this with all of them or just with a few for alibi fixes to calm the protesters down.
But either way, the beautiful, soft-edged old genre tags are back.
Unfortunately, I can’t download them as picture files from anywhere, using the tools Firefox offers to analyze the code does not work. It doesn’t find any picture files for the genre tags, only for the character tags so far.
And static.fimfiction.net that stores all the site content on knighty’s server is access-restricted. I sadly have no idea how this could be cracked open to download the relevant files from there.
Looks like I have to try find old Wayback Machine links of stories here until I have found all the old tags and then screenshot those pages and cut the tags out manually.
