"You're not a burden, my love" Simon comforted his partner, Prince Lucian. "You're all 7,634,420,069,142,002,387,487,862,912 stars in my sky, Luce. And I love how brightly you shine"

Simon's Exodus: Part 1 · 3:40am Jun 5th, 2017

No, this is not a biblical reading. It's a Starbourne story. (My fictional universe is called Starbourne in case you didn't know. Anyway...)

This is a story I have written and rewritten in notebook after notebook, Google Doc after Google Doc... but I've never been able to perfect it. And here's yet another rough draft of said story. It's about Simon and Lana (PM me for details about my Starbourne characters) when they were teens. (Before Simon met Eveline)

I still remember that night like it was yesterday... when it was in fact almost twenty years ago. Before I met Eveline, there was someone else. Someone who was very close to me. My brother Theodore. He would have done anything for me. He knew that I was interested in Dreamwalking, so he signed me up for a class. Unfortunately, Dreamwalking is also a name for a type of dance, and that's what I got stuck with. I wanted to learn how to enter the Dreamscape while awake, how to travel from dream to dream... and what am I learning instead? Dance lessons. Granted, the dances were somewhat enjoyable, except that I always had the same partner, and she kept trying to impress me with her moves. It was a bit annoying of her, but I played along. My dance partner, Lana, was clearly in love with me... but I didn't feel that way about her. Since I didn't want to hurt her, I tried my best to not mention feelings to her. Not mine or hers. She must have thought that I didn't know, because she kept on trying to be noticed by me.

I, as Simon Devlyn, one of the royal family, was saving myself for a princess. Lana was no such girl as a princess. She was beautiful, kind, and one hell of a dancer... but... I, as the youngest of three, had to marry into the throne, and Lana had no kingdom to offer me. I wanted to find a Dreamwalking princess, one with whom I could share my deepest dreams. Not some... admittedly gifted... charming... beautiful... dancer who had no royal connections at all. She didn't seem to care that I was a prince. But I certainly did. And if Lana couldn't accept my rejection... well it's a good thing she's not confessing. Not that it would matter, since I already know.

Anyway, one night, on the eve of my seventeenth birthday, Theodore held a party for me. He invited all of my friends... including Lana. Now, despite being a prince, Theodore didn't care about royal lineage like I did. So I thought to myself, Maybe I could set Lana up with Theodore? Maybe... but how? I thought a little more and finally realized... The play! He and I wrote it together, but it was mostly his work.
Maybe we could cast her in it, and give her a star role. She's forget all about her little crush on me... and fall like a meteorite for my brother!

"Brother Dore?" I asked Theodore, who was busy sipping some champagne, despite being only eighteen.

"Yes, Brother Si?" He responded to me, putting his drink down briefly. "I'm trying to taste starlight here. Make it quick."

"It's about our play, Illusions." I told him. "Aren't we still looking for people to play the lead roles?"

"I told you, I'm not giving you the role of Dragonheart." Theodore replied.

"No..." I said to him. "I was actually thinking that you could be Dragonheart... and Moonflower could be played by Lana."

"Lana?" Theodore asked. "Your friend from that dance class? Why would you give her the star role? I thought you weren't into her... are you?"

"That's precisely it." I explained. "If I pair her up with someone else, she'll give up on me and I can finally concentrate on finding my princess."

"I see what you mean, but why me?" Theodore asked. "Shouldn't you have asked me first?"

"That's what I was in the middle of doing, Brother Dore." I told him. "Would you be willing to accept Lana as your princess? Just for this one night?"

"Alright." Theodore agreed begrudgingly. "But only for the play." He quickly added, winking at me as if he really approved of my pairing.

This worked out better than I thought. I thought to myself, smiling as I stole a sip of my brother's champagne. I read the label on the bottle, which said "Delebleux" in silver letters in a cursive font. I knew the Delebleux family was one of the few royal families from one of the nearby kingdoms.
Much better.
