Halo: Envoy · 10:04pm May 6th, 2017
It took me almost a week (thanks real life ), but I've finally finished reading Halo: Envoy, the latest novel set in my favorite fictional universe. The book was officially released April 25 and while it's not yet available in Italy, I was able to purchase the digital version on my phone.
It has been six years since the end of the Covenant War...and yet on the planet Carrow, a world on the edge of the Joint Occupation Zone, a decisive new battle suddenly erupts. Human colonists and the alien Sangheili have already been living a tension-filled co-existence in this place, with Unified Earth Government envoy Melody Azikiwe attempting to broker a lasting peace between their two species.
But as civil war now engulfs the Sangheili settlers, Melody must act on an additional covert assignment courtesy of the Office of Naval Intelligence: find a way to free the SPARTAN-IIs known as Gray Team, held in stasis since the end of the war by a cunning Elite fleetmaster consumed with vengeance. And none can anticipate the ongoing violence leading to the discovery of an even greater, unstoppable threat, hidden for eons below the surface of the planet….
I won't spoil any detail for those who have still to read the book, let's just say that I personally think the story was not only very enjoyable to read, but in my opinion it's one of the best Halo novels published so far. The book, written by Tobias S. Buckell (the same author of the short story Oasis, from the Halo:Fractures collection), offers a nice view of the situation of the galaxy after the Covenant war from the perspective of both humans and aliens, the pace of narration is excellent, the action scenes are compelling, and the characters (both new and old) are interesting and well written (all things that I can't sadly say about the Kilo-Five Trilogy written by Karen Traviss ).
All in all, it's a good story and I would recommend it to all the fans of the series.
All I am happy about is that we now know what happened to Grey Team.
