[Show spoilers] Season 7, First Viewing! · 1:42am Apr 17th, 2017
Episode one...
•Spike is the best character. Haven't appreciated him this much since Crystal Empire.
•Scootaloo is on a table. Scootatable. Scootable? Is Scoot able now?
•Nice how Twi' was able to actually be productive in the face of Discord's shenanigans. Though he is rather subdued this time, ain't he? Maybe he doesn't want to wreck this party like he did with Smooze.
•Twi', pouring that magic-tainted tea into a planter will only cause problems.
•Do it. Send Starlight away. Far away. GO AWAY, STARLIGHT GLIM-GLAM!
•Y'know, at first, I was really really mad when Twi' did her spell. That was before we found out what it actually was. Bringing others into your fantasy is much more agreeable than forming an astral projection into the future. I was like "Twilight, turn off your God Mode!" for a while.
•On the same subject, wouldn't that make it a daydream? How appropriate that Tia was there, since Luna has dominion over dreams at night.
•Twi' is so against the idea of tsundere Ember that she pictures her as a super-swole dom instead.
•Do it. Kill her. Let Garble kill her.
•I'm totally using that eldritch circle for FMP. Don't try to stop me; it's happening!
•Seriously, Spike is on point right now. He's the best support in the world. I hope the next time he gets stepped on, he burns someone's marshmallow face off.
•Why not just let Starlight stay in the castle while you and your posse run off, Twi'? (Oh wait that's the next episode.)
•It's kinda cool how this episode turned out. All of the action was one character's fears, and instead we get a really cool slice-of-life. It's a surprisingly good departure from the grandiose adventure arcs we've always gotten for season openers, even if I still don't care for Glim-Glam. Although I admit, I'm disappointed that all of those adventure teasers we got were only Twi's "What if?" fantasies. Nonetheless, it was done well, and I support the idea of more life and less death-defying.
Episode two...
•How is it possible to love and hate Trixie at the same time? Answer: Spam the teacup spell. (Also she totally did a come-to-life spell that's on the same level as Discord and the gravy boat from Keep Calm And Flutter On. She's a mini-Discord.)
•Glim-Glam bottling her feelings is a wonderful strategy that I'm sure will not backfire in any way whatsoever. Let's keep all of her emotion sealed away so she'll-- wait, her magic is reliant on her emotion? Isn't that, like, what the Hulk does? Is Starlight secretly the Magical Hulk?
•Still lovin' this "You'll love to hate her" approach to Trixie. She and Twi' are associates, not friends.
•Also thank goodness that's not a bag of quesadillas.
•Spike. Is. THE. BEST. CHARACTER. Right. Now.
•I really love how he's playing his support role to the greatest effect. He notices that something is wrong and doesn't hesitate to approach it, even when the one having the problem doesn't know how to approach it. That's why he's the best familiar a sorcerer could ever hope to have.
•Y'know, despite declaring that Trixie lacks the magical training of Twi' and Gam-Gams, she seems to make up for it in spades with a quick learning curve and sheer power. That's an entire stone table. A table that's been enchanted. The whole enchanted thing, poof, gone, with no discernable effects on the surrounding objects.
•What a nice image on the floor. Why cover it with an ugly table?
•Seriously, screw that table.
•Scootaloo, stand on this table.
•I do kind of enjoy this approach to friendship. Trixie's the kind of gal-pal you'll tire of quickly, but always remember fondly when you're not with her.
•Honestly, seeing Bulk Biceps with anger eyes is kind of fitting. You know what's not fitting? Angry old people. Nobody needs to pull the pin on that grenade.
•Is it weird that I miss Trixie talking in the third person? I mean, it's a good indicator of her development and humility, but that bit of her character was what made me enjoy her first episode. However, Trixie dropping it allowed her to graduate from "being mean to everyone" to just "being mean to Twilight" and I really enjoy those episodes.
•This lesson is the other extreme from the Mare-Do-Well episode. Why is nobody talking about the issues they have with their friends, TO their friends? They should just follow Applejack's policy: honesty! (Unless there's money involved.)
•HOWEVER...Trixie's take on the 'solve problems with magic' lesson is great. I get the feeling she's gonna be fun this year.
•Also, the whole side-arc with the mane six? Eh, fun, nice task, shut up Panka.
~Leo
While both of these were great, I love All Bottled Up more.
4499022 I do too. It was more mellow and focused on silliness than Twilight's neuroticism. Trixie is gonna be a great character this season.
4499043 Eh, for me Trixie was always a great character.
Heck, it's entirely because of her that Boast Busters, despite its flaws, manages to be one of my top ten episodes of season 1.
is something wrong with starlight i like her regardless
4499064 I could list reasons for why I dislike her, but if I'm being honest, she's not too bad. I think I'm just letting my gripes about all of these reformed villains get to me, since Starlight's "big bad backstory" amounted to her being petty. I do want to see her in good lights, and her interaction with Spike and Trixie have helped a lot with my opinion with her.
But nah. There's nothing really wrong with her. She's just my newest pincushion (until the next time Panka goes too far).
4499087 i understand its just some people hate her for being op i mean i could practice magic my whole life and probably beat twilight
4499090 You'd only need one spell. "Avada Kedavra!"
Well, maybe a different one. "Book Fire level 1." Tirek used that one to spectacular effect!
4499114 yea so she's not op
