Creativity Meets Canon

So, while writing a bit today for a chapter of The 7th Element, I came across a happy situation. An idea struck me for the story that tied a large deal together. The only issue was, there was something in canon that could poke very large holes in the concept.

However, after going back to the episode in question, not only did I find out that this was not the case, but what was actually there could give credibility to my concept.

Has this ever happened to you? Something you came up with on the fly, just so happened to fit perfectly with canon?
