Magicant's Pronunciation · 3:14am Mar 25th, 2017
I'm a little surprised by the number of people who mispronounce the name of the location of Magicant (the location of my first story). Lots of people on Youtube pronounce it like "Magisant" when either playing the first two games, fighting on the Smash 3DS stage based on it, or doing something that deals with the location (like showing glitches or breaking boundaries). This is wrong however for two reasons. The first one is phonetically based. The letter "c" only sounds like an "s" if it precedes an "e", an "i", or a "y", and sounds like a "k" in any other situation (with the obvious exception of "h"). The second reason involves looking at the Japanese version of EarthBound (Mother 2). In the Japanese version, the game's locations are nearly identical between the two versions (the only real exception is the town of "Threek", which was changed to "Threed" in America to avoid a relation to the Ku Klux Klan). The Japnanese name of the location is pronounced "Majikanto", of which Magicant is a rough approximation of. This means that it is pronounced like a blend of the words "magic" and "can't".
