From Flash to Toon Boom: Day 1 · 2:12pm Feb 2nd, 2017

Spending the rest of the day on day one of the trial version of Toon Boom Harmony Premium, there are several things I already like along with a few things that will wear off as I take advantage of the trial.

The rigging system is definitely better for puppets that Flash would. I can do the usual hierarchy without the trouble of having to click several times down a Flash Symbol. On terms with the deformers, I so far found it useful for tails. I will test this out on hair as I recreate Apple Bloom.

Coloring may be different, but it's quite bit easy when you make a set of color swatches. If you wish to follow the MLP, have one swatch be the flesh one and the other the outline. Eyes, on the other hand, I will have to experiment as they do use gradients.

Now, for those also wanting to move to Toon Boom, the question for them is: Is it possible to import Flash Assets? Technically, yes. But 1) Only through the library. 2) It's best that it's to be done in parts, preferably with the mouth and arm shapes. Blink cycles will have to be redone. Illustrator files have to share the same fate.

What would it Mean for my Flash Puppets? I will have to keep experimenting. Otherwise, well, I may have to build them up from scratch again. Fortunately, it should be easy to just trace from my Illustrator pieces.
