1996 Columbia TriStar DVD promo (as seen on the 1997 DVD of Matilda) · 10:31pm Jan 3rd, 2017

SEE THE FUTURE FROM A '90S POINT OF VIEW
March 26 marks the 20th anniversary of DVD in North America. This is the first blog exploring the progression of DVD over the years.

Featuring the legendary "trailer voice guy" Don LaFontaine (Mr. "In A World"; 1940–2008), this was included at the beginning of Sony/Columbia-Tristar's first DVD releases. I saw a 1997 DVD of Matilda on eBay for $4.95 that comes in a CD-type jewel case; I believe that it this after I pop it in.

And speaking of that DVD, it does have the promo (the person who uploaded the opening to it on YouTube accessed it by hitting "Resume" on the quite basic looking DVD menu, which the software he used [VLC Media Player] started the disc on); this is followed by the DVD-Video logo, the 1996 variant of Columbia TriStar's Take Hollywood Home logo, the FBI and Interpol screens (that look like they were copied off a VHS tape), the format screen and the TriStar Pictures logo. Matilda's first DVD release took place on July 22, 1997, nearly 3 months after DVD-Video entered the States and Great White North (March 26, 1997).
