2016 in Review · 2:30pm Dec 31st, 2016

It's 30 minutes before midnight here in Japan, so to reflect on the year before I move on to 2017, I've taken the liberty of quantifying all of the writing I did this year.

This year was on the slow side for my writing, and I'll be honest; I'm a lazy, insufferable ass. I complained a lot throughout the year, criticizing my chapters and keeping them to myself, always forgetting what I told myself when I first made Twilight the Great Grey, my first story; write for fun and don't make it a job. My stuff entertains me despite the lack of quality, but after having a member of a D&D podcast that I listened to for years comment on one of my stories, I realized just how much I had to up my game when I read through their stories. I know I won't be as good as other authors on this site, not by a longshot, but I can at the very least try to write like I have some sort of ability. I take a little too long for what I call ‘quality.’

I never bothered to put into numbers how much I wrote in 2015, but I'm sure I stuck to my new year's resolution seeing as how I released four stories this year! That's four times more than 2015's amount, with my only release being TTGG. Anywho, for those who are interested, here are my numbers:

2016 Story Statistics
New Stories: 4
Unsubmitted Stories: 6
Unsubmitted Chapter(s): 2
Submitted Chapter(s): 12

Unsubmitted GDocs that are Currently Being Written: 2
Unsubmitted GDocs that are On Hold: 4
Unsubmitted GDocs that Contain Writing: 5
Total Amount of New Google Documents: 28

Submitted Wordcount: 19,474
Unsubmitted Wordcount: 9,859
Total Wordcount: 29,333

Nearly 10,000 words are unsubmitted. I know that might not seem a lot to you or other writers, but to me, that's a lot of time and effort wasted, seeing as how it makes up a little over a third of my Fimfiction writing this year.

Why do I say wasted, you might ask? I have a folder on my drive titled Abandoned Chapters where they were replaced by rewrites. I have not copied over a single word from any of the replaced chapters, which brings up our final two numbers:

Abandoned Chapter Wordcount: 5,789
Wordcounts being Written/Edited: 4,070

So, to end this post, I'd like to say thanks to those of you who read these posts. I know that some of you do, and it's nice to know that some people actually do see them. As you can tell, I'm not the fastest of writers, nor am I the most motivated, so thanks for putting up with my long periods between updates and these blogposts that I use for excuses. Really though, thanks a bunch. See you all next year, and hopefully I'll write more.

PS. I'm praying to the gods that I have some time after some exams to write lots of updates because I want to hit at least 50,000 new published words for next year, but I'm going to be working two jobs over summer which means I have a very short time period between January 3rd and June 15th to write at least 25,000 words and have them published.
