ABC is moving forward with its gay-rights movement miniseries. The Network recently ordered 'When We Rise', an eight-hour miniseries exploring the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community's civil rights movement, The drama, which is heading into production, is being written by Dustin Lance Black, who won an Oscar for penning the screenplay for the Harvey Milk biopic 'Milk'. Gus Van Sant will helm the first two-hour episode of the miniseries and also serve as an executive producer. 'When We Rise' chronicles the personal and political struggles, setbacks and triumphs of a diverse family of LGBT men and women who helped pioneer one of the last legs of the U.S. Civil Rights movement from its turbulent infancy in the 20th century to the once unfathomable successes of today.
