A Face in the Crowd: The Ramblings of a Spirited Individual, Entry 1 · 1:01am Dec 25th, 2016
Listen.
No, seriously, listen.
Do you hear that around you?
It's the sounds of life.
Isn't it kinda funny sometimes how it's ignored, or passed off?
The hum in the air of passing cars or planes. Think about it, there's people in those vehicles. Those people are living a life just as you are. They could be listening to music, or a talk show, or chatting with others in the car.
And yet, despite the fact that you're aware of their existence, at the same time, you're not. You can hear their car, but you can't hear them. Can't see them. Can't, and maybe won't ever interact with them.
The sound of the wind outside. You know, that same air is being pushed around. You ever think about wind as a shape? It's not just here and now, it's air moving. It's going from one place to another. It's not just a force that's there to push you back, you just happen to be there.
And that wind, the same air that pushes you around, can push others around. It doesn't just affect you and move on. It affects everything in its path. It's like a landslide, in a way.
The tapping of rain on the roof. It's a constant drumming, annoying for some, relaxing for others. Do you ever think about the fact that the rain that you're seeing has been falling from a considerable height? Imagine if it was something other than water. What if rocks fell? There would be destruction everywhere. But there isn't, because it's just rain.
Rain doesn't just hit where you can see. Every second, the ground is struck by a number of drops too high to count.
Most importantly, though, is the voices of others around you. Isn't it funny how often we think of people as people, and not as we do ourselves? They're not NPC's in your life. They are thinking, just like you're thinking. They are seeing and breathing and living. Everyone is a main character.
They have worries and doubts and they are not games to be played, they are another you. We're all human, don't people realize this?
No, they don't. Not really. Everyone's just a face in the crowd, aren't they?
And to someone else,
You, too, are just a face in the crowd.
