    The State of Affairs

Yikes. It's been a while, hasn't it? I hate these blogs, but I kinda feel guilty when I don't say anything, so please bear with me.

Rant time! Show vs. Tell: Why You Know People who are Doing it Terribly Wrong

It’s always depressing to see people give bad advice. It’s even more depressing to see people eat that bad advice up and say things like, 'This is really good and totally right!' Now, I don’t like starting arguments on the Internet, so I normally just shake my head and look the other way. But this is something I have seen more than a couple of times from people who have a greater audience than

    New Chapter and Related Apologies

New chapter is up! Twilight and Celestia are getting closer to the dragon kingdom now, but they still have a little something to go through before they get there. That little something may or may not include living, giant stone statues.

    Honest Words

She holds my hand with all the strength she has left, a bony grasp that shakes like a frightened child. I can hear her breathing, wet and rasping as if her lungs are filled with fluid—until I realise that they probably are. The oxygen machine next to me hisses, and I can hear shrill beeps from the other side of the bed. One and a half every second, a laughable imitation of a heartbeat. To me it

Sleep is for the Weak (or people without a million things to do at any one time) · 3:56pm Sep 22nd, 2012

I am not sure how many people will be particularly interested with what I have to say, but there are probably a few of you. To anyone who isn't, then forgive me, please.

It feels very... unpleasant starting off a blog like this, but I suppose it's true all the same.

I have some bad news, really. A little over a week ago I got a message from my very talented artist telling me that he has fractured his hand, and as such, won't be able to finish the artwork for my new story for at least 6-8 weeks. This means that I am unable to release a story that already has about 80k words written until then, a story that I have been working on for months now.

Incredibly frustrating, yes, but there really isn't too much I can do about it.

"But wait, Mystic! Why can't you just release the story and wait for the cover art?!"

Good question, and the answer is essentially I am an attention whore (like any author worth their salt, really (I kid, I kid)), and I am very, very aware that a very large number of readers read 'The Sun Whispers' because of the cover art.

Or, (the prettier version), I want to give the story the best chance of reaching the widest possible audience, and, as such, it is far more beneficial to wait until I have the gorgeous, epic-looking piece of badassery that the cover will undoubtedly be.

Which, ultimately, leaves me in a position I don't really fancy all that much. I like releasing content as regularly as possible, and 6-8 weeks (and probably longer), is a long time to release nothing. This is particularly true for someone like me who thrives on having deadlines, goals, and being able to witness progress.

The logical fix is to write something new in the meantime, right? Well, that's what I thought too. I have three ideas in my head. All of them are long, all of them are complex, which really isn't ideal. One I actually started earlier this week, but I think I am going to have to let it go because I keep running into brick walls with the plot. Essentially, I can't make up my mind what I want to write, and it kind of sucks, haha. I have worked myself into a deadlock of ideas, and in response, I have just started playing Fallout 3 again (I named my character Blackjack and everything! :D ). It probably shouldn't come as a surprise that one of my ideas is a Fo:E fic, haha. (I was serious when I said long and complex!)

Is there a point to all this? Not really. Just a fyi in case anyone is interested as to why I am not releasing anything new despite numerous promises to the contrary. Hopefully over the next few days a solution presents itself, and I will find something to write. Something for you, something for me. Everyone's happy!

Ah well. I just need to have some patience, haha. One way or another, though, I promise whatever I do will be cool!

Till next time,

- Mystic

You don't have to be sorry - thanks to one distraction less I will maybe actually work on my papers about the literature in Austria in Lichtenstein :rainbowlaugh: Besides that: go for the Fallout! I dare you not to... :pinkiecrazy: JK, write about whatever you want :twilightsheepish:

A FOE story? All I can say is... join ussssssss.... :pinkiecrazy:

If your story isn't complete you could just spend the next two months hammering out the rest. If it is finished then go for another story. Do what you did before start one and see how you feel about it. If you run into the same problem scrap it and start another.

Or...

Join usssssss.... :trollestia:

I came close to starting to read 'The Sun Whispers' this last week, I honestly did! Then Borderlands 2 came out. That game and working on my own stuff equals no time to read for the Otter. :facehoof: :fluttercry:

I often feel as you do, Mystic. Ideas bouncing around in the head for stories. My current lot include; an AU where instead of ponies everyone is cats, two different 'Alicorn' stories, and the desire to overcome a bought of writers block with one of my stories. Stupid writers block. :twilightangry2:

This means that I am unable to release a story that already has about 80k words written until then, a story that I have been working on for months now.

Oh, no I don't have the time for that:raritydespair: Looks like no sleep in 6-8 weeks.

Don't worry about it. However long it takes you to do your stuff doesn't matter to me. Just post a few blog entries now and then with some funny jokes and stuff and we will be good. Lol Jk, you don't have to do that.

Anyway good luck, have fun playing Fallout, and try not to push yourself too hard.

I am a little saddened that I won't get to read a new piece of yours soon. However, I prefer to get your 'A' Game when you can (as opposed to something thrown together to keep us happy).

I feel you. Attention whores unite!!! Your fans will read it anyway but yeah, cover art's big. It's unfair, but it can also make the difference. W/e there are thousands of other stories up here so don't be so full of it! :rainbowlaugh: you're doing fine.

375333 375345 Oh don't worry. The Fallout story will be written. The question is when. Honestly, though, I want to do it right, so the answer to that question might be not for a little while yet. But still.

Hopefully, provided everything works out okay, it should happen!

375413 Borderlands 2? Oooh, if it's anything like the first then awesome, but even then... it's no Fallout 3. Nothing, absolutely nothing can beat that game, haha.

375733 Haha, don't worry, I'll release it chapter by chapter, so it won't be a massive overload!

375926 Funny blog posts? Oh God! The pressure! I am not going to be able to write a blog post now without stressing about making it funny! D:

376155 Don't worry, I am sure I will find something to put out in the meantime. It might be something small, but something is better than nothing, right? Haha.

376594 I didn't really realise just how important it was until I saw the number of people saying it was the cover art that prompted them to read it, haha. Kinda gives me the incentive to make sure it's good, haha.

You can add +1 to those people you told us about :)
I have to admit that I too was attracted by cover of 'The Sun Whispers...' and while cover was not only reason I read it, the cover had a large influence in my decision.
We'll wait then.

377179 Except waiting sucks :( Haha.

My dearest one, I have to admit that I got indeed attracted by the cover art of Sun Whispers Your Name, and that's basically how I met You :rainbowlaugh:
So I guess I can understand why you are doing this.
So the question is, what to do in meantime... Make a song, maybe? :D Nah just kidding... I leave this decision up to you, maybe making some one or two quick one shots is not bad idea at all :derpytongue2:

383046 I could definitely write a song.

It would be the best song ever written. Like that one by Jack Black, just cooler.

(I can't even play an instrument, hahaha.)

I think I might do some quick one-shots. I will just have to see what kind of inspiration comes!

383640

I can play guitar! Let's form up a band, and we will sell millions copies of our CD's :D

JB is cool guy, I love him :rainbowlaugh:
