Thaumotology: a seminar. Part 1: Mana · 8:55pm Dec 1st, 2016
Um... H-hi there, everypony. F-forgive me if I'm a little nervous. This is the first time I've done anything like this.
Alright. L-lets start with this simple question: "What is Thaumotology?" quite simply, Thaumotology is the science of magic, as ridiculous as that sounds. But Thaumotology is a very unorthodox science. You know the laws of conservation? Yeah, Thaumotology doesn't obey them. Energy, heat, matter, all of it can be generated and destroyed by magic. There are laws of Thaumotology, but that's a topic for another seminar.
So... Magic... It does kind of have a starting point. M-particles, or Mana as it's commonly called. Particles so small that they hide in the quantum folds in atoms. All atoms to be exact. Nopony knows exactly how M-particles work, but they seem to not be subject to any known law of physics.
We use the immense energy constantly streaming from M-particles to manipulate the environment to our will. How we do this is a long complicated process that we still don't entirely understand and would take far too long to explain in a simple seminar. Not even Princess Twilight is sure how it works. But that's besides the point.
I'll end this part of the Seminar with this simple analogy and then I'll take questions.
Mana is essentially a metal ore. We use this metal to build magical manipulations like buildings.

So is the mana in our souls?
4325153 no. No. That's quite a common misconception. M-particles are parts of atoms, like nuetrons, electrons and protons. Since the soul is not an object and therefore has no mass which means it has no atoms
4325415 Ohh. So how is it that some are born with more mana then others?
4325432 Its not that they were born with more Mana. Unicorns are specially evolved to harness the energy of the mana around them and divert it into spells.
