In wake of the election results · 3:22am Nov 10th, 2016
I think it would be good for all of us to remember that no matter the result, no matter who you supported, no matter what happens, we're all still Americans. Instead of dividing ourselves and squabbling over something that we have no control over, we should be uniting and working together to make the next four years the best we can make them. Maybe Trump will be a good president after all, or maybe he'll be terrible. All we can do is hope that he does well and be there to support our new leader, regardless of his flaws.
Let's make these next four years four good years, everyone.
If only people saw that way...instead this site is filled with angry people angry about something that won't even start for another month and a half!
As much as I would like to be the better man and give him a chance, I'm going to have to go with... no.
I was here for the entire duration of the Obama presidency. I was shocked when Mitch McConnel stated that his first goal was to make Obama a one term president. I was more than frustrated when the congress republicans did everything within their earthly power to do absolutely nothing for the past eight years. On almost every occasion, our current president has been met with intransigent refusal to cooperate or even to their jobs. It's been 9 months with a vacant seat in the Supreme Court, and Obama couldn't fulfill his duties in filling that seat since the R-side senate refuses to even address the issue.
And, lets not forget, Congress republicans had stated that they were preparing for years of email investigations (which the FBI cleared her of) for Clinton if she won, as well as another 4 years of preventing the supreme court seat from being filled.
Meanwhile, I doubt they will even acknowledge the ongoing legal problems with their candidate. Just yesterday there were hearing for Trump's alleged rape of a minor plus racketeering. The FBI has been using a FISA warrant to investigate the likelyhood of Russian ties. Plus there's the ongoing debacle of Trump U, and the alleged bribery of a Florida DA to look the other way.
Even setting all of that aside, I would have been willing to give Trump some modicum of a chance if he hadn't proposed some of the most ridiculous ideas, ranging from pants on head stupid to the genuinely terrifying and blatantly unconstitutional. Muzzle the free press? That's a bill of rights amendment you're subverting there. Torturing terror suspects because they deserve it? Due process violation plus war crime. Make a database of Muslims in the country? Why not just tattoo them with a serial number like some other people I could mention.
The only thing I'm grateful for in this election is giving the Republicans a chance to prove that government doesn't work when they have a vested interest in not making it work. No more blaming Obama, they're holding the bag starting next year.
Edit: I should also mention that Hillary was not my chosen candidate for this election. I would have much rather had someone else running, but I could also have said the same of the R-side of the race, too.
