In all honesty though I agree with the idea of it being focused around Twlight, them using AJ's pride as the focus of the lesson does show what can happen if you don't set that feeling aside from time to time. We've often seen how Twilight has set her own pride aside so it would have been a moot point for her to learn, it also helped to teach that while being honest can bring a level of pride.

That honesty is often at it's strongest when humility is added to it. So AJ learning humility as the element of honesty comes as a good representation for kids. Even if the undertone may have been lost or over looked.
