A Sample of Machado · 9:41pm Oct 5th, 2016

Lost in the ridiculous, Donald Trump-provoked discussion over Alicia Machado’s weight is her long-dormant musical career. Like many beauty queens before and since, Machado landed acting gigs and a recording deal after being awarded her 1996 Miss Universe title. She would eventually release two albums with Universal, and most recently, in 2013, she released at least one single independently. The song is titled “Incomprendida” (Misunderstood).

And while Machado’s musical career hasn’t really prospered, yet, she built enough of a name as Miss Universe that in 2004, she was chosen as the up-and-coming artist to be the face of a series of Clinique pop-up events during Latin Grammy Street parties in Miami, New York and Los Angeles.

However, to actually hear Machado sing, one has to do some digging. She has no songs on Spotify and her YouTube channel features acting reels but no music videos. Further search didn’t bring up any official music videos, but we did find a lyric video and some live performances.

The cuts sampled here are all from her self-titled debut album, which was released in 2004.
