Why is Rainbow Dash the most ship-able pony? · 7:08pm Oct 2nd, 2016
So, story time with Mister Phoenix before I get started... (cough, cough) I was lying down reading shipping fanfics because I was bored and it was raining outside. While reading random stories, some RainbowPie, a little bit of Applejack fics in there with the others too. I got to thinking and when I start thinking I can't stop, I have a problem. Call for help
But my main question is why is Rainbow Dash gets shipped more than her friends? To make this short, I'll stick only to the Main Six ships.
So, let start with Rainbow character and how after this everyone would want to kill me. Anyway, Rainbow is the Element of Loyalty, she's a up-coming Wonderbolt, she's cheats, only likes one type of book series; Daring Do, lazy, some times dishonest and acts like a Tomboy.
Why does she gets shipped the most, the only pony who I think would be a good choice is Fluttershy or Pinkie Pie, I rule out Fluttershy because the two have been friends for so long that I find it hard to believe the two would start dating.
With Applejack it wouldn't last, Rainbow is far too lazy to help, shown in the second episode where she choose napping over helping Applejack. RD with Twilight would be just as bad without not much ground the two can really start to form a strong loving bond, with only sharing Daring Do knowledge.
Rarity is a weird case, RD has said many times why she hates dresses, plus her trying to keep awesome it would stand in the way. With Rarity being more high class then Rainbow.
Plus when I see these fanfics, Rainbow still in character. She has all the problems I listed, but still is able to get the girl, but why? There has to be some reason why Rainbow is more ship-able than Applejack or Fluttershy.
With the others it seems like one shipping group is always better than the other like; AJ X Rarity, Pinkie X Twilight, Fluttershy X Rainbow. But Rainbow is popular in every ship she is in.
I think it might be that Rainbow does have a lot of things that wouldn't work when dating someone, but can have her defense lowed so she can act like someone who is in love, step outside what you like and try some thing new because Rainbow wouldn't give up because something would stop her.
Or maybe I'm just thinking way to hard into random ships about talking ponies?
No, I think you're probably quite right on every point. I have often wondered why Rainbow gets shipped with everypony, and this really gives me the answer I've been seeking.
I agree with what The Bricklayer said: I think you're quite right on every point you've made. ...Well, except for the 'her and Fluttershy being friends for so long' thing.
I mean, I get what you're saying. It would be hard to see them dating, seeing as they've been friends for so long. I'm not saying I completely disagree with you (because I don't). However, how I look at it, their long-term friendship is what I think would bring them closer together. I think this because as the two of them have been friends for so long, they clearly know each other well, yes? But, seeing as Rainbow Dash was always there to help her during Flight Camp/School (is that actually true? Or is that every FlutterDash fanfic I've ever read messing with me?), it wouldn't be a surprise to see Rainbow Dash actually getting feelings which, even if it's only slightly, are romantic.
Apart from that, I can't argue with any other points you've made. They all seem accurate to me.
Funny how if I said all this stuff, I would be rained on with fire from the sky by the Dash fans.
But seriously, I wondered this for a long time. I think people have idealized Dash for so long, they think she's the main character, and can have/do whatever she wants without consequence. They imagine her the way they think she should be, and not how she actually is.
That's why episodes like "28 Pranks Later" and "The Cart Before the Ponies" are such gut-punches for them. They can't stand their favorite character actually being in character. So they write fics based on how Dash ought to be in their minds.
4237293 Well I don't really care if every Rainbow Dash fan wants me dead. Maybe it the higher follow count that you have, but I really couldn't care if Rainbow fans are at my door wanting my head. You do bring up a good point, I think that why Sonic Rainboom is a popular episode even if I don't enjoy it. The episode shows how great Rainbow is and how she can do what ponies thought that is impossible.
The problem there is the show is showing how great Rainbow is in some episode and how bad she is. It seems like they can't find a middle ground to have the character, because at some points she better than The Wonderbolts and save them and knows them. But for some reason she gets scared being in The Wonderbolts, I freaking hate that episode in Season 6.
I think the main reason that people like her more than Twilight is most likely because of her Element of Harmony and that as I said sometimes she awesome and sometimes she isn't.
4237616 Well, the whole Wonderbolts thing is like this. If you were better than you're idols, and it's been shown multiple times, you'll be either really boastful about it, or be even more scared that they'll think you're a show-off
