POKEMON SEPTEMBER UPDATE!!! · 8:49pm Sep 6th, 2016

Let's get ready to RUMBLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

Putting the Japanese trailer here too because hot damn: there was a lot of juicy things the English trailer just did not cover. So, y'all ready for this? Because this is probably the most important update in Pokemon Sun and Moon.

NEW POKEMON...?

Type: Null

Type: Normal
Class: Synthetic Pokemon
Ability: Battle Armor
Analysis:
Okay, wait, hold the fucking phone for a second! No, you're not reading that name incorrectly nor did I accidentally put a colon between the two names; its actual name is Type: Null. And it gets even stranger when you look closely and see that the actual Pokemon itself is just a mishmash of other types. Right off the bat I can see the Bug, Water, Grass, Dark and Steel-types. I'm sure there are more types, but I'm not spending five hours looking for them. From a section of the Pokedex entry, it is said that it was needed to complete a certain mission against the legendary Pokemon. So it really makes you wonder what the hell a representative of Team Skull is doing with it! But we'll get to that later, I promise. This is definitely a taste of what Sun and Moon has in store for us!

Jangmo-o

Type: Dragon
Class: Scaly Pokemon
Ability: Bulletproof/Soundproof
Analysis:
I don't know about you guys, but I love this thing. I don't know what it is I love about it (probably the heart-shaped crest on its head), but it's absolutely the cutest thing ever! Though there really isn't too much to say about it. It has some decent abilities, and it's a Dragon-type so it's automatically awesome, but it just seems like a regular Dragon-type to me. However, I look forward to the day when I see it evolve into something fabulous!

Alolan Raticate

Type: Dark/Normal
Class: Mouse Pokemon
Ability: Gluttony/Hustle
Analysis:
Hahahahahahahaha! Ahahahahahahahaha! Ahh... Oh, sorry, I just find this thing to be so amazingly stupid-looking that it's actually my favorite of the three new Pokemon revealed! I was prepared for many design choices: butt-ugly, lanky and mean-looking. Nothing; ABSOLUTELY NOTHING prepared me for this. I already find rats to be super-cute animals in real life, and this thing is just the cutest Raticate I have ever had the pleasure of discovering. Gluttony is kind of a useless ability, but Hustle is certainly worth looking at. It makes Raticate a lot more interesting now that it has increased power with its attacks. Well, at least a lot more interesting than Run Away and Guts, that's for sure. But while many people may find Alolan Raticate to look stupid... you'd be right. But hey, I think that's its whole charm.

UB-01

Type: ???
Class: ???
Ability: ???
Analysis:
This is not a Pokemon, officially confirmed by Nintendo; I just put it in the Pokemon section for simplicity's sake. This is something called an Ultra Beast, and they are feared by people and Pokemon alike in Alola for their awesome power and serious threat to nature. They are being studied by something called the Aether Foundation (who we'll get to later) and they are basically Ba'als from Bravely Second. Oh, and this one is Lillie. Yeah, remember her? It's so friggin' obvious Lillie is this beast, or at the very least related to it in some way. Nonetheless, this proves that Sun and Moon has much more of a story going on than the previous titles, meaning we aren't in Kansas anymore, Toto! I cannot wait to fight this thing! Plus, the way it was introduced in the Japanese trailer makes me think that all of them are from some different dimension or something.

NEW CHARACTERS!!!

The Aether Foundation

These guys are not some new evil team, but rather a team on your side. They are the Aether Foundation, and they consist of employees (not grunts), two administrators and a single leader, much like Team Skull. Again, we'll get to that a bit later. These guys have their HQ on the man-made island in the center called the Aether Paradise used to protect Pokemon. In a way, it's like a Pokemon Center and full-on hospital l that takes in Pokemon abandoned by their trainers or whatnot. The Aether Foundation also studies the Ultra Beasts in an attempt to understand more about them, but what their true goals are for the Ultra Beasts we have no idea yet. Apparently, the employees have different outfits for the foundation's different divisions.

Lusamine

Lusamine is the president of the Aether Foundation. Not too much is known about her, even from the official site, but what we do know is that she appears to be a very kind and wise person who may or may not be related to Lillie OR Guzma in some way, and she's really hot. Oh, but we also know she has a strange crystal in her chest, and that raises quite a few questions...

Faba

I swear to god, everyone in the Alola region originates from Orre... Anyway, this guy is Faba, the branch chief and one of the admins of the Aether Foundation. We know that his favorite color is green and he takes pride in his position as branch chief. Honestly, I would too. But again, not too much character here. We do know that he does a bit of fieldwork every now and then with some employees, and sometimes even tussles with Team Skull for a Slowpoke of all things.

Wicke

The assistant branch chief of the Aether Foundation. Hmm! It's almost if everyone in the goddamn universe wants the branch chief title! Nonetheless, she's actually pretty cute. Apparently everyone else thinks that too because she's loved by all in the foundation! These guys seem too perfect and I'm just waiting for the moment when shit hits the fan and makes these guys the villains instead. Wouldn't that be interesting, not to mention overplayed and cliched? Nonetheless, I can already see Wicke becoming a fan-favorite among those within the fandom.

Gladion

Ladies and gentlemen who wanted a true rival for this game? Your prayers have been answered in the form of Team Skull admin Jojo Gladion! This guy seems to battle you throughout the course of the game in an attempt to get stronger and stronger, so you always have to be there to punch him back into place so you can fight him again later. Oh, and his battle music is awesome. I don't know if it's his unique theme or the Team Skull admin theme, but whether the outcome the theme is kickass and it makes me want to fight him! Curiously, his partner Pokemon is Type: Null, meaning Team Skull now has possession of what could potentially be one of the most powerful mythical Pokemon in Alola. I'm curious to see where the story will go.

NEW GAMEPLAY!!!

Day/Night Cycle (Plus Version Differences)

Those Chinese leaks are getting truer and truer because they got something right yet again! They leaked that time will be different in each version of the game, and now here knowing that at long last. Pokemon Sun and Moon's daylight times will act different in the sense that Moon's time will be 12 hours apart from Sun's time. This means that during the real life daytime, Sun will be day and Moon will be night, and during the real-life nighttime, Sun will be night and Moon will be day. It's little things this that make me question why GameFreak didn't think of this sooner. Maybe X and Y was a test for Sun and Moon? That would actually explain a lot.

Of course there are version differences as well, such as totem Pokemon will be different depending on either which game you pick or what time you do something. All of this sounds super cool, and I hope it's executed near-flawlessly in the games! Unless IGN points out that there's "Too much water" again. Assholes.

Zygarde Cell Searching

Dexio and Sina are back from Pokemon X and Y (because we liked them sooooooooo much...) and they want to give you something called a Zygarde Cube, which looks nothing like a cube and therefore they're lying to me... little shits. Nonetheless, this object allows you to locate and collect Zygarde Cells and Cores to allow you to eventually create Perfect Zygarde, which sounds awesome! TyranitarTube and many others predicted this would happen and they were damn-right! I'm glad this little mechanic is here so it makes you feel like you earned an ultimate weapon instead of it just being given to you.

Take notes, Fire Emblem Fates.

Pokemon Snap! Kinda...

The Pokemon Finder is basically a sequel to Pokemon Snap only it's in Pokemon Sun and Moon. If you find a secret spot somewhere in Alola, you'll be able to pull out your Rotom-dex and snap a few photos of whatever Pokemon may be lurking within. From what we've seen so far, Pikachu, Cutiefly, Eevee, Lillipup, Oricorio and Dragonite are all Pokemon you can snap a photo of, and I'm willing to bet that you could probably snap a picture of most non-legendary Pokemon who are in the wilds of a certain island.

I can see many Pokemon Snap fanboys having a lot of fun with this. It's like GameFreak combined all the best elements of past Pokemon games and merged them into one. I love it.

Lively Locales!

There was a lot of new places, specifically new towns we saw in the Japanese trailer, including a town near the Volcano on Akala Island, the Japanese-like town on the isle off Akala Island, the tower in the city on the big island, a Chinese-like town somewhere around Alola, and my personal favorite being the port town on the forbidden island which is probably the only place on the island people are allowed to step onto.

But did you notice anything about these towns? They all looked so lively and full of energy! Pokemon flying and walking about, kids running around, hula girls dancing to and fro. All these small details are what give Alola it's realism, as if you're playing a Pokemon game within the real world! But what makes me super curious are the buildings within each town. The port town looks to be made of multiple ships with shops all docked around a wooden port, but in the Volcano town there seems to be what appears to be some kind of contest hall. Maybe contests are coming back again? Who knows?

Anyway, that's all for today!

Holy shit I had a lot to cover today, but I think I managed to do it all. If there's anything I missed, do tell me and I'll be sure to add it onto this blog. After all, we wouldn't want to be blinded, now would we?

Do you guys have any thoughts about the new Pokemon trailer? Post them in the comments below and I'll be sure to see to them like I always do. After all, this is Pokemon we're talking about here! And Pokemon is important to me and you (probably). I have no idea where I was going with this speech, but I just felt like saying something inspirational or whatever.

Also, Vamp? Yeah, there are actual bosses in Pokemon now. Happy? :derpytongue2:

And I thought soul-sucking dolls and organ theft in a Digimon-game were the strangest things today.
Type:Null: Wow, weird with a weirder name (it has nearly the same name in german, and here "Null" means zero)
Jangmo-o: Dragon, so instant-awesome
Alolan Raticate: The El Chapo for Trumpmon
UB-01: Prove that Gamefreak can still suprise us
Æther: I'm really curious what they want with the Ultrabeasts. Wouldn't surprise me if they are revealed to be the bad guys in the end and you have to work together with Team Skull
Lusamine: Either Big Bad or Champ/Final boss
Faba: I have a bad feeling with this guy
Also I think the moving thing in Lillie's bag was a Zygarde cell
Day/Night difference is really cool, but it may be sad for some Moon players, that they can't fight Trumpmon-Boss. I'll punch him extra hard for you guys:rainbowdetermined2:

Firstly, Sun and Moon is really trying to push it's own version of the waifu wars isn't it? Still, long as there developed characters, I'm cool with that. (Cause waifu wars are always fun ^_^)

Ratticate looks so ridiculous I love it.:rainbowkiss:

Our new rival seems interesting, his hair is ridiculous, but I do like that the "serious" rival is an antagonist again, kinda like our old gen 2 rival, in a way.

Who the hay are Dexio and Sina? Also, yay! Side quests/end game content, my biggest complaint about X and Y may finally be resolved!

The snap feature seems cool, and fan pleasing, I diglet .:trollestia:

I do like the idea or livelier locales, gives the world a deeper sense of immersion if I can believe it's real.

Overall, this is shaping up to be some serious competition for my FF 15 money in November. All Game freak needs to do is give me a battle frontier end game equivalent, (I know, some of those challenges were ridiculous, but I still maintain the Frontier was one of the cooler endgame ideas in a Pokemon game.) And it's a day one purchase from me.

Thanks for the update man.

Trumpmon? Really? :rainbowlaugh:

UB-01 isn't a Pokemon, but something tells me we still have to fight it eventually. Or, with our theories in place, I guess I should say "her" since it is heavily implied that this thing is Lillie.

The Aether Foundation just gives me a bad vibe, y'know? Like they'll betray us at any time and make us feel bad for it. Then maybe you're right; we'll team up with Team Skull and give them a good what-for! And Lusamine does look like final boss material, but I just have another feeling that Solgaleo or Lunala will be the main antagonists of this little adventure. I mean, it would certainly be a first for Pokemon games to have their main antagonist an actual Pokemon.

Type: Null is still weird and I love it. :rainbowkiss:

The waifu wars NEVER end in Pokemon! Basic 101 stuff, man.

Raticate is the best thing about this game! Oh, and the gripping story too, I guess.

He makes a battle pose that reminds me of Jojo. Going onto Tumblr, I found out that many people have the same thoughts and feelings towards that idea. I might post a few memes on the subject later.

Dexio and Sina were unimportant characters in X and Y. So in other words, just another X and Y character (burn). But they return and are actually useful this time around.

Ha! Diglett! I get it! :rainbowlaugh:

I LOVE the idea of more things and crap going around towns and making them feel more alive! Now I feel like I'm playing a Pokemon game that actually feels like there aren't just NPCs around but rather actual things that happen on a daily basis in a certain town.

I don't know if post game content or a battle frontier will be revealed before the game is released, but since those Chinese leaks are starting to become a lot more trustworthy I can say that there will be four new islands to explore after the main game, and to get there you'll take the SS Anne. On the ship, you'll be able to battle with the previous champions of other regions like they were all some form of Super Boss. If that doesn't get you excited, I dunno what will! :rainbowkiss:

Does UB-01 remind anybody about a previously mentioned lab assistant?
i.ytimg.com/vi/QmpUEfQDPVI/maxresdefault.jpg
I was going to say they look the same and maybe she had one but it could be that too.

4195655
Yeah, I mentioned that in the blog, silly. :derpytongue2:

4195663 I was skimming through it. :twilightblush: I was busy with a game called Overwatch, great game. :pinkiehappy::rainbowdetermined2:

4195623
Really looking forward to all the other Ultrabeasts they'll come up with.
Even if UB-01 really is Lillie, would it be wrong to wish to actually be able to catch and train Ultrabeasts?
Lusamine could use a team of six Ultrabeasts in her battle.

4195641
Pft, soldier, unless you've fought in the Persona waifu wars, you don't know the meaning of the word "waifu wars"...the campaign was long and bloody, I stood in silence as the fanboys threw themselves at each other, loudly declaring there waifus best...I joke in my jab, no hate towards the Pokemon waifu wars, but believe me, the Persona ones are a nightmare.

You expected your team skull rival, but it was I, Dio all along!

Yeah, of course I don't need a lively environment most of the time. Usually strong characters, narrative, or a game good at drawing out emotions will do it fine. But yes, this seems like a good system.

Oh yes! That, sounds, perfect! Honestly, just anything to keep me coming back after I beat the champion is enough for me!:pinkiehappy:

4195704
Hold that thought, I found something interesting. Keep an eye out for my next blog.

4195708
You mean "champion"? I would assume there is no real champion in Alola due to the Trial stuff. :applejackunsure:

If everything goes according to plan, this may be one of the best Pokemon games so far. :pinkiehappy:

4195724
Oh, woops!:applejackconfused: silly me!:rainbowlaugh:

4195753
It's alright, I get some people are still getting used to it all.

I think the presence of known Pokemon from prior games being able to be caught on camera means it will be possible to catch them in the wild, in Dragonite's case it's more of being able to catch a wild Drantini, and that also means that if Eevee is running around wild in Alola then that means it might have a new evolution in Sun and Moon.

4195815
Nope, sorry. Evidence points to no new Eeveelutions. Sorry... :fluttercry:

cdn.idigitaltimes.com/sites/idigitaltimes.com/files/styles/image_embed/public/2016/09/06/pokemon-sun-and-moon-cutiefly-evolution.jpg

Just in case you didn't see it. It was... I believe in the Japanese Trailer. Anyway, I'm just a little put off by the strange names of the pokemon xD

And due to Y/A clichés, there's no way the Aether Corporation is not evil. White clothes, check. Woman, check. Blonde Woman, check.

4196693
Yeah, I saw the Cutiefly evolution. :rainbowkiss:

I don't think the Aether Foundation is necessarily evil, but rather false-minded. They want to be able to do a difference and help Pokemon in need, but some of their methods on doing so are... questionable, to say the least.
