VHS Update - September 2, 2016 · 2:18am Sep 3rd, 2016

Sorry, no scans for you at the moment. Try again much later than right now.

i got a huge box of VHS tapes - mostly consisting of musicals. These are NOT MGM musicals, mind you - I got some in a separate box and will show them when I get the chance.

I'm to get three at a time out of the box, maybe four, maybe one in the event that might call for it. You never know. But I'm not gonna get them out all at once. I certainly didn't tonight.

First one is Grease, a 1980s-esque VHS from your friends at Paramount. And just about all of you are reading this going *squee!*

And there are some pretty interesting things about it too.

This tape has VHS Hi-Fi written on the box, making it look like a 1984 VHS that had been encoded with Hi-Fi sound (those titles started coming from Paramount in 1984). Further of interest, THIS HAS AN ISBN NUMBER!!! (ISBN 0-7291-0004-2). Paramount didn't start to use those until late 1988 so its appearance on the cover art; mostly a replica of the 1982 VHS of the film (it was first released as a mono tape in 1980).

Tape labels have the Paramount's 75th Anniversary logo (which means the tape labels themselves must be a variant from around 1987). The tape was printed during the 30th week of 1988.

I next got the sequel to the film: GREASE 2. And this kind of sucks compared to the original; from what I've heard anyway. Similar box to the 1982 VHS but with ANOTHER ISBN NUMBER!! (ISBN 0-7921-0006-9)

Tape labels are like those on the Grease VHS; tape was printed during the 40th week of 1989 from what I've been bothered trying to make out anyway. And it also has a print date: October 4, 1989. Importantly, that would've been my birthday . . . but I wasn't born in '89.

Last (for now until next time) I got the 1984 CBS/Fox VHS of Oklahoma!, one of 20th Century-Fox's innumerable adaptations of Rodgers & Hammerstein material. The tape surprisingly finds room to credit ''Williamson Music Company, Publisher'' on the back which was a curiosity.

I have the Original Soundtrack Recording of the film, on Capitol (SWAO 595).

Tape has the normal CBS/Fox label from around the time. The tape has a print date on it, curiously: January 29, 1989.

Thank you for reading. Enjoy your night.
