Mariusioannesp Speculates Wildly: More Season 6 Part 2 Stuff · 9:25pm Jul 20th, 2016
Greetings Brony Brethren!
We just got about a week to go until Season 6 of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is back. As such, we have been experiencing quite a glut of information regarding the upcoming second part of Season 6.
First, we got an extended synopsis for the upcoming episode “Stranger Than Fan Fiction”.
Air Date: July 30th
New synopsis:
Rainbow Dash attends the Daring Do Convention in Manehattan and meets a pony named Quibble Pants (voiced by Patton Oswalt) who despises Daring Do as much as she loves it. The two of them get wrapped up in a real life Daring Do adventure and must settle their differences if they have any chance of surviving the convention.
No, you read that right. Equestria Daily also revealed the official announcement.
Quibble Pants, the new character that will be introduced in “Stranger Than Fan Fiction”, is voiced by Patton Oswalt!
I’ve suggested many people to guest star on MLP, but I never once thought Patton Oswalt would be guest-starring on MLP. Patton Oswalt, if you don’t know, is a stand-up comedian and actor. His notable roles include a recurring role on the sitcom The King of Queens as Spence, the voice of Remy in the film Ratatouille, and Eric Koening and his identical brothers Billy and Sam on Agents of SHIELD. Other voice acting roles include Professor Dementor on Kim Possible. He’s also appeared a number of times on the Comedy Central series Reno 911. I also remember fondly his participation in Comedy Central’s Last Laugh ‘06 alongside Lewis Black and Greg Giraldo.
He’s also well known for the epicly insane Star Wars filibuster featured on the series Parks and Recreation.
I have a feeling the reason he’s on MLP is because he watches the show with his daughter. Back in January, he was on Conan giving Conan O’Brien a pretty good rundown of what MLP pilot was all about.
So yeah, you could say I’m a bit of a Patton Oswalt fan.
But enough of Patton Oswalt. What of the actual episode? Well, I still suspect that Quibble Pants is going to be a Daring Do fan who is overly critical of the books in a bit of a send up of the Brony analyst community. In fact, that’s kind of a character that fits Patton Oswalt. The synopsis also indicates that Quibble Pants and Rainbow Dash will get wrapped up in a real life Daring Do adventure. I imagine that means as I’ve speculated before that this will be the episode where Daring Do shows up again.
We also got a new image from the episode in question.
Eyup. That looks like a convention alright.
Equestria Daily also revealed that Josh Haber and Mike Vogel are the writers of “Stranger Than Fan Fiction”. From what we’ve seen of Mike Vogel so far, he’s not one to shy away from servicing the fandom. I imagine just as I’ve speculated in the past that he’ll make sure that there will in fact be metareferences to the Brony fandom through the guise of Equestria’s Daring Do fandom.
Next up, we have just a tiny bit of an extended synopsis for the upcoming episode “28 Pranks Later”, but sometimes even the littlest of hints speaks volumes.
Episode - 28 Pranks Later
Air Date: August 13Synopsis:
When Rainbow Dash's pranking gets out of hand, the ponies decide to give her a taste of her own medicine zom-pony style!
That’s right. Zom-pony! Now, I initially said I had misgivings about this episode given the similarity of its plot to the widely despised “The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well”. However, the fact that we might finally be seeing zombie ponies in this episode might make up for it if it happens to fall into the same trap as “The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well”. Spike first mentioned zombies way back in the Season 1 episode “Bridle Gossip”. I guess we’re finally going to be able to see them in this episode. It also explains the title since it’s a reference to the zombie film 28 Days Later and its sequel 28 Weeks Later.
Next, we have a synopsis for Episode 16 (although here it’s still called 17) “The Times They Are a Changeling”
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic : The Times They Are a Changeling
S06, E17 (First Aired: August 20, 2016)
When Spike travels with Twilight and Sunburst back to the Crystal Empire to visit Flurry Heart, they discover the entire empire in a panic due to the reported presence of Changeling spy.
Cast: Tara Strong, Ashleigh Ball, Andrea Libman, Tabitha St. Germain (Zap2it's Episode Listing)
Just as I suspected, this does involve Changelings, or at least one Changeling. And we are going to see Sunburst again. I find it odd though that there’s no mention of Starlight Glimmer, especially given her relationship with Sunburst and the presence she’s had this season. Well, let’s see what more we can glean about this eventually.
Next, we have a synopsis for the actual Episode 17 “Dungeons and Discord”.
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic: Dungeons and Discord
Air Date: 9/03/2016When the Mane 6 leave town, Discord decides to join Spike and Big Mac's role-playing game session.
I did speculate the possibility that this episode would involve a send-up of role-playing games. And I was right about Discord being involved. What’s surprising though is apparently Spike and Big Mac play role-playing games together. Maybe not too surprising for Spike. In the comics, Shining Armor role-played with his high school friends. Given that Spike was apparently raised by Twilight, it wouldn’t be surprising if he was introduced to it by Shining Armor. It would be even more surprising if they mention that Shining Armor introduced Spike to role-playing, confirming that at least that bit of the comics is indeed canonical. But the most interesting thing about this is that this may be the first MLP episode that revolves solely around its male characters. That’s certainly an interesting development.
Finally, we got a new promo that reveals a few scenes from the upcoming episodes.
We get a couple of scenes here where we see Rainbow Dash and Quibble Pants, presumably from “Stranger Than Fan Fiction”. There’s also a brief moment where we see Daring Do with them, confirming as I’ve always thought that Daring Do would be in this episode. There’s also a few scenes where we see Applejack, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash cart racing with the Cutie Mark Crusaders, which I imagine is from “The Cart Before the Ponies”. There’s also a couple of scenes where the Mane 6 appearing to be traveling wearing snowy weather gear. Don't know what that could possibly be from yet.
There’s a few scenes with Spike and a Changeling and him calling the Changeling his friend in the Crystal Empire. I imagine this is from “The Times They Are a Changeling”. I imagine this means this episode will involve Spike befriending a Changeling. I wonder if this Changeling is the same Kevin the Changeling who attended Cranky and Mathilda’s wedding last season. It could be, but all Changelings kind of look the same anyway. That’s not racist; it’s true.
There’s also a few scenes where Spike is in some fantastical land dressed as a wizard and one where he’s in said fantastical land with Discord and Big Mac. I imagine that’s from “Dungeons and Discord”. That’s interesting. Along with “Gauntlet of Fire” earlier this season, “The Times They Are a Changeling” and “Dungeons and Discord” both appear to be Spike episodes. Just like Season 4, this season also has quite a slew of them. And “Gauntlet of Fire” was a really good Spike episode. Let’s hope these other two are just as good so we can have a repeat of Season 4 in that regard.
One last thing before I bring this to a close. We got a piece of MLP movie news that I find rather unfortunate. John De Lancie has seemingly confirmed that Discord will not be in the MLP movie because he’s not recording anything for it. So far, it seems to be the first prediction of mine concerning the MLP movie to be officially debunked.
So, that’s it for today. This should be the last you hear of me until the mid-season premiere next Saturday. However, I might have something out this Friday if you’re interested in hearing about things other than MLP.
What do y’all think of my speculations? Do you think they have merit, or are they all doomed to be discredited due to their sheer lunacy?
God bless you all. God bless America. And God bless Equestria.
4103664 Well, honestly the canonicity of the comics has always been kind of fishy. For example, the Spike and Luna Friends Forever comic depicts of community of dragons living in Fillydelphia. Both "Dragon Quest" and more recently "Gauntlet of Fire" state that ponies don't know much about dragons. If there are dragons living in Fillydelphia, and pretty assimilated into Equestrian society I might add, why wouldn't anypony just ask them, making Twilight sneaking into the Dragon Lands unnecessary? Plus, according to Equestria Daily last year, the show staff apparently don't even follow the comics anyway. I'm not saying this means the all the comics are completely non-canon with the show, but it's worth taking the comics with a hefty grain of salt.
