I think Twilight's best pony because I relate to her the best.

Obscure References and New Headcanons: Twilight Velvet · 5:07am Jun 29th, 2016

Okay, so I have this fanfiction series that I love called the Royal Canterlot Family series by CartoonNerd12 and KidatHeart5. It’s basically a fairy tale AU series reimagining the Mane 6 and the CMC as the daughters of Celestia. I have a total soft spot for fairy tales, so it quickly became my favorite fanfiction series ever.
Anyway, CN12 recently released a new installment called Crown of Winter, starring the Mane 6’s children, and as I was reading it, I kept getting annoyed because our main characters repeatedly kept on defying these little nuggets of wisdom that quite honestly have helped me out a few times, especially whenever life won’t go my way and I find I need a little perspective.

1. You can't always get what you want/But if you try sometimes you just might find/You just might find/You get what you need—The Rolling Stones (By the way, I’m not familiar with the song or what it’s about. I just greatly appreciate the perspective that these particular lines give me.)
2. But things never happen the same way twice.—C.S. Lewis
3. Sometimes what you get turns out to be better than what you wanted in the first place.—Eve Bunting
4. Sometimes the things you want/Are not the things you need—The Rainbooms

Now, sometimes when I really get into a work of fiction. I start wondering things like “Does an Eve Bunting pony exist in the RCF-verse?” or “Does an Eve Bunting pony even exist in the show’s actual canon?” Then, I thought “If a pony version of Eve Bunting doesn’t exist, then one should. If a certain book of hers actually existed in the RCF-verse, the characters probably would have realized how foolish they were being.” For those of you who aren’t familiar with Eve Bunting, she’s a children’s book author who writes about mature subject matter like adoption, war, and homelessness. Some of her subject matter can get a bit dark, but they usually end on an optimistic note (at least, the books I’ve read, well, except for Terrible Things). The book in question, by the way, is titled Train to Somewhere for all you curious people who suddenly want to read it. It happens to be the book where I got that third nugget of wisdom from.
Out of curiosity and boredom, I actually attempted to come up with a name for pony Eve Bunting. In the process of mixing and matching different words related to “eve” and words related to “bunting,” I made a startling realization. Twilight Sparkle’s mother’s name, according to the expanded material, is Twilight Velvet. Additionally, according to the expanded material, Twilight’s mom is a writer. Twilight Velvet and Eve Bunting are both writers. “Twilight” and “Eve” are both times of the day when the sky is somewhat dark. “Velvet” and “Bunting” are both types of fabric. Furthermore, according to the IDW comics, Twilight Velvet won a prestigious writing award, and Eve Bunting has won several awards for her books. Could Twilight’s mom be a possible obscure shout-out to Eve Bunting?
Well, we may never know, but I personally think she should be. Additionally, the sudden discovery of Twilight Velvet’s similarities to Eve Bunting inspired me to create a headcanon that Twilight’s mom wrote Equestria’s version of Train to Somewhere, Terrible Things, and all Eve Bunting’s other books. I also have this headcanon that Twilight Velvet wrote Equestria’s version of The Magic Treehouse series and that she writes all her books using the pen name T.V. Light, but I digress.
