Supergirl: Tyler Hoechlin cast as Superman; Lynda Carter cast as President of the United States · 1:23am Jun 22nd, 2016
“Supergirl” has found its Man of Steel; “Teen Wolf” alum Tyler Hoechlin has been cast as Superman/Clark Kent in Season 2 of the Greg Berlanti-produced drama, which is making the jump from CBS to The CW for its sophomore outing.
“Greg and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman,” said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg in a statement. “We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”
Hoechlin recently starred in Richard Linklater’s “Everybody Wants Some!!” alongside Blake Jenner — the husband of “Supergirl” star Melissa Benoist — who has also appeared on the superhero drama. Hoechlin will next be seen in “Stratton” alongside Dominic Cooper and Tom Felton. Previous credits include “Road To Perdition,” “Hall Pass” and “Solstice.”
When news of Superman’s casting was first announced, Kreisberg released a statement on behalf of the show’s producing team, which includes Berlanti and Ali Adler. “Greg, Ali and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of ‘Supergirl,'” he said. “Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season.”
Hoechlin is repped by UTA, Management 360, and attorney Todd Rubinstein.
“Supergirl” Season 2 will air Mondays at 8 p.m. on The CW.
Lynda Carter, who starred in the ’70s “Wonder Woman” television series, has been cast in a recurring role in the upcoming season of the CW’s “Supergirl.” Carter is set to play the President of the United States.
Executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg teased the casting in March, telling reporters that they had sought to cast Carter for the role last season, but that her schedule wouldn’t allow it. They added that they intended to make the casting happen in the upcoming second season.
Carter played the title superhero on “Wonder Woman” from 1975 to 1979. The show was among the first on television to feature a female superhero.
Carter is represented by managers Jeremy Katz of the Katz Company, Inc. and Dorit Simone of Dorit Simone Management & Productions. Her agent is Bobby Moses of Mavrick Artists Agency.
Carter last appeared on television in a 2013 episode of CBS’ “Two and a Half Men.” She appeared on an episode of “Smallville” in 2007. Her casting follows that of Tyler Hoechlin, who will play Superman in the upcoming second season of “Supergirl.”
Season 2 of “Supergirl” premieres Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. The series migrates to the CW next season after the first season aired on CBS.
