Spyro the Dragon (Opinions on the current state of the franchise) · 7:51pm Jun 6th, 2016
It's been so long since we've gotten a traditional Spyro the Dragon game hasn't it? I'm not usually the "Errgh the new stuff suuuucks the old stuff is always going to be better!" type of guy but...
To be completely honest those are my actual thoughts on the Spyro franchise. I have a very hard time enjoying the newer entries in the franchise (Skylanders I don't think counts as a Spyro game if you ask me. It's just a game series that happens to have Spyro in it) The original three games had some of the most fluent control, especially at the time period. It's something the later games like Spyro a Hero's Tale tried to replicate but couldn't get quite right. And the game's sense of humor and story, while pretty simple actually turned out to be pretty interesting (favorite Spyro game is Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon) They just had a certain charm to them that has yet to actually be matched.
And the Legend of Spyro series...did not feel like Spyro to me. It just felt way too serious for a game about an overconfident tiny purple dragon fighting these huge evil monsters and it made me lose interest in it real quick. I don't know if I'm in the minority or what with that statement but yeah I don't like em all that much. I picked up the first game in that series, played it for about a half hour or so, and just never felt the need or want to play it again. It just felt...really, really boring.
And though Skylanders I don't consider a Spyro game, just let me talk about my stance on it for one second please. I already put down a ton of money to get your game, but the character figures it comes with are soooo limited. Are you telling me after all that you want me to spend even more money on more figures to really have much of a fun time? Because to be completely honest I didn't find the game all that entertaining itself. And on top of that there's like a new Skylanders coming out almost every year now with some kind of new gimmick to add onto it. It's like the Angry Birds of console gaming and to me it feels really really annoying because this is the only thing even relevant to Spyro the Dragon coming out right now. Look I don't even really buy amiibos or Disney Infinity figures so why on earth would I want to go into this series either when the first game didn't even really interest me? (I TRIED Lego Dimensions but the portal for whatever reason stopped working after the very first day I got it. I have yet to figure out why.)
The point is I'd honestly like a traditional Spyro game to happen sometime though I doubt very highly that's going to happen for a while. But until then, I guess I still have Spyro 3.
