Shadow's Seasons: Applejack's Day Off · 4:16pm May 28th, 2016

Hello, everyone! And welcome to the ninth installment of my Season Six review series.

This time, we're looking at Applejack's Day Off by Will and Mike Fox...

Alright, now before I get this review started, I want to say that hand on heart, I actually don't have much to say about this episode. Nothing special, nothing analytical, nothing of any sort whatsoever. This has to be the first episode I've ever seen where I have absolutely no comment for most of the things here whatsoever. I completely zoned out for most of it, and that's never happened to me before in my life. Ever. At all. With ay episode of Friendship is Magic.

I mean, with the other episodes I've tangled, there was always something that caught my eye. Whether it was a memorable and well-placed moral, an interesting plot thread which could be expanded by other writers, or even a failed attempt at dark humour to provoke a reaction. There was always something like that before, but not this time. It just felt lifeless, and for a title like Applejack's Day Off, I kind of expected that...

What I guess I should say about this episode is how Rarity seems to feel a little upset that Applejack has far too much work on her hooves to come and relax with her at the spa, but I feel like that would just drag on and on, and I'd have to give an informative speech abuot something that doesn't need that much explanation. It's a common case of tell over show, and I'm not going to stoop that low in this particular episode.

There is literally nothing else I can say except Applejack decides to have a day off and go to the spa with Rarity. This feels like someone took a look at one of my earlier works, Applejack and Rarity go to a Youth Club, decided to get rid of everything except the Rarijack essence, and then package it into an episode.

It just felt boring, unpaced, lack of story or humour, and above all, unfinished. This might just be the first time where I'm calling an episode of MLP unfinished, and that there could've been so much more if they had put it back a few episodes or just left it for another season. There was no spice, nothing that made me laugh (even though I did chuckle at some stuff...), no songs, no nothing. It was just something that lacked in quality for me.

But from what I can make out at the end of the episode is that if you have someone helping you out, you can find a more complicated but efficient way to solve the problem, I think? Whatever the moral is, it just feels confusing, and would probably never be used in real-life unless there's a rare occasion.

I mean, the only time I could ever think that this moral came into play was last night on a game I played with my friends online, but even then, I still don't think that an episode of MLP could be a tutor for this particular kind of thing. I mean, yeah, it's nice to have a pair of extra eyes look over your work and see if there's any mistakes or problems, but even so, I don't feel like it could've been used in anything but this episode.

Well, the spa thing was an example of this kind of thing, but again, it felt unfinished, it felt lacking. I'm probably gonna end up repeating myself for this, aren't I?

I'm just gonna end the review now before I start to drift off and think of something else, because I'm already starting to forget that this episode exists.

Applejack's Day Off is plain and simply unfinished in my eyes. Despite the run time, the moral, and everything else, it feels like an episode with zero spice, and just another excuse for us to ship Applejack and Rarity.

The pacing, humour, and other stuff is blah, blah, blah. Etc. etc. That sort of thing.

Still, I feel like if you're a Rarijack shipper, then this episode might just be your ideal fantasy. But even then, it doesn't really show them bond over much of their time in the spa and moreso almost has them fall out because Applejack doesn't want to relax and let the other spa ponies get on with their treatment.

Applejack's Day Off?

More like Will and Mike's Day Off...

Thank you very much for reading this, guys, and I'm so sorry that it was shorter than the other ones. Like I said, I did completely faze while writing the review for this episode and I couldn't really think of anything analytical to say about it. And I feared that if I was more of a casual reviewer like MythrilMoth, TheFanficFanPony, and Present Perfect (Who are all awesome and you should definitely follow them if you like casual reviews of episodes with analytical stuff splattered here and there.), this one would dip in quality.

But anyways, I hope you can understand why this one was short, and I hope you join me next week for Flutter Brutter, where hopefully, we'll have a longer review than this one...

Until then, farewell...
