Anime Review: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni · 4:28pm May 26th, 2016

Another anime? What could it be this time? Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. An anime based of a set of P.C. visual novels. The stories are good, but hyper violent and mind warping. Please proceed, and search at your own risk. This series is nothing compared to the last anime I reviewed. See you all after the break.

Higurashi is a mystery/thriller/gore anime. The arcs are numerous and are about 2-6 episodes long on average. The games are the origin, so anything in them that is not in the anime is normal. Now about the violence. How violent is it? The opening shot of the entire series is the main character beating his friends to death with a bat.

I am not joking. I would show you all, but I would get in a lot of trouble. The series is real dark and gruesome. Some, if not all, of the characters are killed in the most grotesque ways. They are stabbed to death, their nails are pulled out, they are cleaved, and so much more. The appeal is what gets many horror fans, and the mystery and story are what keep me and many others.

The characters are fun. With only one boy and the rest of the main cast being girls give some really good humor. This is real close to life, and it is well written. Given it is based off a visual novel that is well written is no surprise. Most of the villains are scum, and it makes it even better.

The real story behind it all? There is a virus going around the village. Everyone is infected, but on a low scale called L1. L5 is the worse with the person being at that stage actually clawing their necks out and bleeding to death. The characters that go crazy are at L5 when the arc ends usually die. Usually. The series shows that the arcs are time repeating because a spirit wishes for all the deaths to stop that have plagued a town were someone dies and someone goes missing. Every arc is the summer of 1983, Showa 58, repeated. Each event is different and eventually they remember each time due to the never ending cycle of misery being created.

There is a lot to this series that I can't say and won't do it any justice. I do recommend it, but be warned. This is highly violent and gory. It is well written, and there are parts when you will just feel as if it is happening to you. I wish I could give this series a better review, but most is best when watched. I hope you all decide to check it out if interested, and I will see you all next time and in the comments.

I had heard about that anime a while ago, don't get me wrong it looked very good at the time. But when it came out I wasn't really in to that genre too much. Now I have been tempted to take the time and watch it, but for some reason I continue to procrastinate on that.

You did a great job on this review, though as you stated you couldn't give any reference art. Being as gory as it is. If you're willing to take a request, how about the anime Gate?

3975769 I'll look into it. I want to give art for this, but there is too much I can't show.

3976056 It's alright, I know how bad that anime got just from seeing bits and pieces here and there. I'm not holding it against you at all. Though like I said you can post these reviews in the Cafe, it's perfectly fine, in fact it's quite welcomed that you do.

You'll get some views, and more replies than just me.
