The latest episode made me squee so much I had a stroke [SPOILERS] · 12:18am May 15th, 2016

So.... she's Scrooge and the Grinch? Didn't see that coming. Alastair Sim's Scrooge is my favourite movie of all time (we watch it every Christmas Eve) and, by god, if MLP wasn't a TV-Y show, I would have loved to see some of the darker stuff---for example, no Jacob Marley? He was my favourite character! But I suppose the whole "my partner died after having a hellish vision of his own doom and coming in shackles to warn me" isn't for little kids... even though I loved it when I was a kid. If Starlight/Scrooge had lost someone significant in her past like Scrooge did it would have helped the story a bit, but it's hard to cram everything into twenty-two minutes.

So, little things I loved---Derpy stayed on the tree the whole time, old-timey Vinyl Scratch, Rainbow in drag again (wouldn't Fluttershy be a better candidate for the Bob Cratchet character?), and the fact that several scenes were almost shot-for-shot duplicates from the movie. Oh, and I nearly died when the last spirit showed up, Jesus. Christmas Yet To Come scared me shitless as a kid, so I had an unfortunate reaction the first time I saw a Muslim woman in full burqa! And when that thing was looming over Snowfall, oh my god, Jesus of Nazareth, I freaked out. I might need to replace my headphones cause I jerked back from the computer so fast I think I hurt them. That hasn't happened since that scene in The Exorcist Three. If you're going to watch that video, turn your volume way up and sit back and relax, it's not scary at all. :pinkiecrazy:

Okay, done rambling. Going to try to write some more.

I actually loved Rainbow Dash as the Bob Cratchit character, precisely because she is nothing like Bob Cratchit. Her response to Snowfall was great, because it came out of her own brash characterization. Just my opinion. But so far, I've been really pleased with the last several episodes. The first few didn't do much for me, but ever since Spike's episode, they've been great.
