Season 6 Episode 8 · 4:16pm May 14th, 2016

The one thing I am going to get out of they way is about the parents watching this with their children. Try explaining to your kids this episode is showing how commercial Christmas is and all those people that hate it because that is all they see. Sure "A Christmas Carol" shows to be kind during the holiday, but this shows how some see it as a waste of time and would do anything to get rid of it.

The episode starts off with everyone singing and getting ready for the holiday's, and Starlight doesn't care for the holiday. She sees it as an excuse for gifts and candy. Twilight then offers to tell her a story. A story that is very similar in theme to "A Christmas Carol." I can live with this.

The main character of the story, who looks like Starlight Glimmer, is trying to become a powerful Unicorn, and views the holiday as a nuisance that is a waste of time. She has an assistant that wants to enjoy the holiday, and she lets her leave. After talking to herself, she decides to get rid of the holiday. This is what I meant when I said it was something dark, and getting rid of a holiday is some dark shit. This a kids show indeed.

She is then visited by three spirits. The first two are Applejack as the Ghost of the Past and Pinkie as the Ghost of the Present. Pinkie is literally the Ghost of Presents. Word play for the win. It is revealed about her past is that she used to love the holiday until some prick-of-a-teacher told her it was a waste of time and that the only way to get better at magic is to ignore the holiday and everything else. Then it is shown that they are having a party without her and are talking about her. These scenes are nearly identical to the basis of this episode. Then Spike asks for a break as well as Starlight revealing Twilight has a Pinkie voice.

It turns out that the last Ghost is Luna as the Ghost of the Future. She shows how terrible the future is and how all is wrong in the world because of her. She learns her lesson as does Starlight.

This episode is actually a good watch for, mainly because I love anything with "A Christmas Carol" them in it. This is a fun, but dark, episode. Watching Starlight technically play the villain again is a nice treat, and it shows the writers are either screwing around with the stories, or that they are actually listening to the fans. My guess is the former more because they tend to ignore that stuff for certain reasons. The fourth wall breaks are funny as hell, and the fact that Twilight has a Pinkie voice is even funnier.

I look forward to next weeks episode and your responses.

I agree that they did well with this episode, and using A Christmas Carole for the them was very well done. Out of the televised versions that have come and gone over the years, this one is going to hold a nice spot in my top 5 for the music and how beautiful it all came together.

But one thing I said on another blog and I bring to you as well. I would like to see a fic in which the wendigos of their world fight against the wendigos of the Algonquian folklore.

3944784 That would be an interesting concept. What would it be like for them?

3945078 Well given what we know about the wendagio of the mlp world. They are malevolent spirits that feed upon the negative emotions, turning the landscape into a frozen hell.

As for the wendagio of the Algonquian folklore, they are the spiritual embodiment of cannibalism. According to the lore, the Wendigo is created whenever a human resorts to cannibalism to survive. The best known way to become a Wendigo is through cannibalism. A human can be overcome by these spirits and be transformed into one. So the unending freezing weather would eventually lead to ponies eating one another causing the birth of the new wendagio. But in some versions of the lore the wendigo (cannibal version) grows in size the more it feeds, till it reaches a point that it's appetite is insatiable.

So we have one group moving in causing all the food to slowly dwindle till it's no more, then in a desperate attempt for survival several ponies result to cannibalism causing the birth of the second group. Now to make them be able to fight one another as the ponies turned wendigo are physical with evil spirits in them, and the others are spirits of nature. What do you think?

3945121 Interesting. There is a lot to work with.

3945126 Oh ya there is.
