If you like D&D stuff, or just tabletop rpg stuff in general, one of the people I follow online is trying to get funding to create something to sell for Dungeon Masters to increase immersion.

    Happy Holidays

This is your yearly reminder that I wrote a decently funny Christmas story in the long-ago times. If you haven't read it, you should! If you have read it, maybe you should just stick with blurred memories of how good it was.

    Books!

So, due to my high level connections here and there, I now have an advance copy of several highly sought after ponyfic books. Now that I've had a chance to check several of them out in person, I have to say that Ponyfeather Publishing does excellent work. Anyone able to pick one up, at Bronycon or ordering them afterward, should totally do so.

Last Week on City Of Doors 7/7/2019

So, I've actually been posting on my primary blog lately. Which has been nice, given that I've pulled myself out of depression enough to actually do stuff like that. So, here's been my daily content over there:

Anime: Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress

In retaliation of us hitting their secret facility, the aliens attacked one of the resistance camps that have been supporting us. Team Review gets sent out to deal with them. Remember, save at least some civilians guys. Even the ones that write terrible fanfics. Also I realized that reviewers apparently really like the flying robots. Three of the five people in the squad have them.

...

So, that didn't work out. Whole team killed and most of the civilians slaughtered. I'll be trying that again. For some reason I always have trouble with the first time a muton shows up. They always end up kicking my ass. In this case, taking out three members of the team before going down itself. Then Titanium Dragon gets mind-controlled (twice!) and John Perry is left fighting the aliens by himself. Stun Lancer, Faceless, Sectoid, mind-controlled Titanium Dragon. Takes them four turns of constantly missing to take John Perry down.

Second attempt actually gets us a siege mission instead of the standard resistance retaliation. Which is probably better, since I suck at saving civilians. Also means we get assistance from the local warriors! Our rescuers, I mean our allies are Ferret, Flash Sentry, DarkZero, Boudicca, Crime.

The fun part is that I've got a lot of voice pack mods downloaded. So several soldiers have special voices. Cerulean Voice gets to be Mordin Solus from Mass Effect 2 & 3. Flash Sentry gets to be a Warhammer40k Space Marine.

Titanium Dragon, LoganBerry, and Cerulean Voice got wounded. Everyone but John Perry got promotions. Of those that assisted and joined us after the fight, Flash Sentry and Ferret were wounded and all four got promotions. Ferret is now a ranger with the sneaky and a sword. Flash Sentry is an Operative with flying bot and sniper rifle. DarkZero is an insurgent with a shotgun and grenade launcher. Lastly, Boudiccais a infiltrator with a rifle and a pistol.

I do enjoy the new siege mission types, but I do feel that they give the player too many recruits. Perhaps it would balance out more if I was not save-scumming (reloading a save after a bad mission, which I've only done a couple of times so far actually) and had more causalities. The thing is I want to see how the soldiers do over time, so I can't have the carefully named soldiers dying left and right.

Been a week or two (in-game) since the last big mission. Gathering supplies, getting plans for new armor out to the general resistance network, researching technology and dissecting aliens, the usual. Now we've got information of a big bad guy VIP that needs to be taken out. So I sent out Team Review to kidnap him. With the promise of a scientist that will be joining us if the mission goes well. One Trixie Lulamoon by name.

Another trap. The moment the team was detected the transport got chased away and they had to hold out for a while. John Perry sadly was the focus of every enemy heavy hitter one turn and died. Then was animated as a zombie. Then died again. Titanium Dragon's shotgun to the face at point blank range for the second death. Also made the terrible choice to skullhack a enemy in the middle of a desperate situation. Which summoned the teleporting duplicating energy being that is so annoying and hard to kill. Not that it ended up mattering. Mind control and like four reanimated zombies adds up to a total mission failure.

So, instead of that mission we are going to ignore Trixie's information and go somewhere else to strike back at the aliens. This time hacking a open data line to the alien network one of our resistance contacts found out about. Which wasn't a cakewalk by any means. Almost lost one, three of five soldiers wounded. Loganberry apparently forgot every other person on the team has cool long-range hacking robots and runs ahead to try and get to the computer. Which ended up with him running and dodging a dozen enemies for a few turns. While one of the flying hacking robots zipped in and hacked the computer in question. On the plus side, everybody except Cerulean Voice got promotions. Joining us after that show of skill was a new scientist. Doctor FanOf MostEverything. Which is a weird name, but as far as quirks go is pretty tame for our staff so he was invited with open arms.
