Ponies of Gem World · 11:40am May 6th, 2016

So there I was, flicking through the back issues at my local comic book store when one in particular caught my eye and made me wonder:

'Why has no one done a crossover of this yet'?

The book in question was Sword of Sorcery, a New 52 fantasy-based book whose primary story line involved rebooting a 70's fantasy heroine named Amethyst, the princess of a dimension known as Gemworld.

And, allow me to apologize upfront, because honestly? I'm not familiar with Amethyst. She's piqued my interest now and again, but my local store doesn't have anything collecting her original appearances... so most of what I'm about to talk about is drawn from wikipedia and fan sources.

That being said, everything I have seen? Points to it as a very obvious thing that can be ponified with ease.

Firstly, the name itself; Gemworld. That name alone poitns to it as something that could be very easily tied into MLP lore via the Crystal Empire. More significantly, however, is the fact that -in it's original appearances- the Gem world was portrayed as a flat continent with a sun that orbited it. The Celestia parallel is obvious.

There's even a very obvious protagonist for the series. Rarity would fit right in, to say nothing of the fact that there's a pony who shares the same name as the protagonist of the original comic.

As I said; Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld wasn't a huge mainstream hit. Maybe that's why, unlike Batmane or Supermare, it hasn't been capitalized on yet. But I'd love to see someone who is more familiar with the source material adapt it to an MLP setting, and if they don't...
Well, I need lore to flesh out my take on the Crystal Empire.
