Rewriting “Twilight’s Kingdom” · 11:10pm May 2nd, 2016
Overall, I enjoyed “Twilight’s Kingdom” (who would expect a show about cartoon ponies to have an intense fight sequence?), but I’ve always disliked how they clumsily included Discord as part of the hostage negotiations because the plot needed him to be there to learn his magical lesson. Here’s the scene that I imagine happened instead, which would help everything make more sense.
Twilight has just finished her fight with Tirek. They stare each other down.
TIREK
It appears we are at an impasse.
TWILIGHT SPARKLE
(angry but focused)
Tirek, I will never let you and Discord take control
of Equestria.
TIREK
Discord?
Tirek snaps his fingers. A floating bubble appears which contains a depressed, defeated Discord.
TIREK (CONT'D)
That fool was merely my pawn. I took his magic as soon
as he gave me what I needed to acquire yours.
Speaking of which…
Tirek snaps his fingers again. Six more floating bubbles appear, containing Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash,
Applejack, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, and Spike.
TIREK (CONT'D)
How about a trade, Princess Twilight?
From there, the episode continues normally. Now there’s an explanation for Discord’s presence, rather than Tirek bringing him in for no discernible reason.
