No Second Prances: IT FINALLY HAPPENED! · 7:09pm Apr 30th, 2016

Okay guys, I think this will become my favorite episode of this season (unless they make all the following ones about Trixie, that's it). So, without more ado, here's the episode.

YES!
YES! YES! YES!
SO MUCH YES!

It should be relised last week, on my birthsday. Why, Fausticorn??? WHY!?!?

Thanks for the link. But isn't posting those things now against site rules?

My favourite moment? Twilight's face at 7:53

3908023 Nothing beats the talkactive Mac or the RD faces at 5:31 and 5:33.

I'll be straight up honest with you.

...This episode was everything I hoped for!

I did fear (judging from the trailer) that the writers would throw Trixie under the bus again just to prove Twilight's concerns right, but at the same time I saw the possibility that she was good (or good-ish, at least, which is really better in my opinion) and it would be Twilight learning a lesson about judgement. (As the saying goes, "he who has forgiven but not forgotten, has not truly forgiven.") And so it happened.

It also touched base on a lot of my personal interpretations of the Boastful Blue: at heart a good pony, but very proud, very insecure, still has a lot of hangups; that she's genuinely extremely talented in show magic but falls short compared to Twilight, which aggravates her insecurities further (she's less powerful than Starlight as well, but she has no problem with that... because she's got no bad history with Starlight and only good rapport, and Starlight genuinely wants to help her); and she enjoys putting on airs but has no problem getting down to earth around the (few) ponies she trusts. And she's willing to stand up to danger even when she's obviously outclassed, rather than take the coward's way out. (coughcoughUrsacough) Even the chilly and sarcastic way she addressed Twilight at first fit in well (and was contrasted well with the genuine respect she showed at the end, when she saw Twilight's true character).

Also, Hoofdini is now canon. That name (and her being a fan) has been fanon for so long, I doubt any other name could have worked.

So yeah. Great episode. Gonna watch it over again.

Hey, better late than never.

3908017
Wait, what? Really?!

Aw, screw it.

Mines are the interactions between Trix and Star. They feel so natural together, not equal, but complimenting. I can see them going on together in life, sharing and supporting each oth--

Well, look at that. This episode gave me a ship I actually endorse. This is a new one for me.

How about Twilight's "What?!"

...This episode was everything I hoped for!

I know, right!

I mean, I was the entire episode thinking "They'll f*ck this one. They'll make Trixie evil." and then BAM! She's an actual character with good and bad features. We get to see a Trixie who has troubles, both personal and interpersonal, while also struggles in life. She's not fully 'reformed' and has a parallel with Starlight in dealing with her past. However, she also shows a different approach as instead of controlling everything like Starlight, Trixie wants to prove she can do it all by herself.

They show a similarity and a contrast, getting them closer because of that. I loved the moment when Trixie realizes she mistook too, because it gives her more dimension rather than any of the extremes between good or bad all along. In fact, this was a very good episode in dealing with mistakes, be them past of present, and the three main characters learn from it.

And, as you said, one can't help but admire Trixie's drive to keep on going, even if she knows she can't. I feel it gives us a Trixie who is willing to face the full weight of her mistakes once they happen, and holds her ground till the last moment. Hell, this is even a development from the last two times, when Trixie ended up running away after all was said and done. Here she doesn't, even knowing that what will follow will be along the lines of the ridicule she so much fears.

Overall, great episode, great characterization and a perfect fanfic fuel. Well played, show. Well played.

P.S.: Starlight was crying. Trixie was crying. For a moment I thought I was watching an Steven Universe episode. Then I realized that show is in hiatus till June and I was about to cry.

3908072 Firstly - twiducks don't bark. Secoundly - yes.

I don't know, mate. I mean, following the "mystique and intrigue" around Trixie's character, specially over her past, there's nothing that denies the one you wrote for Mare-Do-Well: Regeneration (or any other fan-backstory, for what it matters). I think the divergence part comes in tone, and since you made a story so wildly different from canon, there's no real comparison point.

FiM is a lighthearted, if sometimes too silly, slice of life story that most of the times tries to be constructive (with varying degrees of success). Meanwhile, Regeneration has a more serious tone, working in the edges between deconstruction and reconstruction. It's more analytical, therefore becomes a subject of its own ground.

But yeah, we have to hand it to the show's crew, they made a great and powerful episode.

I feel the same. Before this season, I was rampant over Starlight. Then, she gained some actual character and I said "yeah, okay, but I'm still not convinced." And then, this beautiful example of creativity came out and I now actually like Starlight. Not on Trixie leves, but close.

And yeah, Trixie and Starlight's friendship feels so natural. The writers showed off this time with the dialogue, as every interaction they have is practically a full-force "show, don't tell" over their friendship.
