Starswirl's Amniomorphic Spell... · 11:47am Aug 26th, 2012
...Is actually a subtle joke, for those who didn't know.
As one Youtuber commented:
"Star Swirl the bearded and the amniomorphic spell is really a subtle joke:
Amnio=Bowl
Morphic=Morph
He is a bearded wizard who shapes bowls, a Hairy Potter."
Didn't see that coming...
Also, work on the next chappy has begun. There may be some slight blocks, but I expect it to go smoothly.
(Glares at Starswirl)
bahaha, you made me laugh. Well done!
and can't wait for the next chapter.
Who knew Starswirl the Bearded was such a troll? Guess it's not too much of a surprise, considering how much time he must have spent around Celestia...

Aye mate, doing what I can.
And also, this is a question that I am directing to all commentors: How would you like to see Gandalf as having been Starswirl?
I ain't saying nothin'.
Just answer the question.
Gandalf = Starswirl would be awesome, and is probably a great way to add another story arc.
I can see it now, Twilight having a massive nerdgasm at the thought of meeting Starswirl the Bearded.
Twilights face when:

I actually suspected Gandalf = Starswirl the very moment 'Gandalf in Equestria' registered in my mind.
So... Yesyesyesyesyesyesyesyes!
So the most powerful unicorn mage in Equestria, the pony who invented things as earth-shattering as time travel and the same one who predates the two princesses that move cosmic entities, wasn't actually a pony and was instead a human (essentially)?
Call me biased to HiE themes, but I think that'd just be stealing the spotlight.
T_T I feel so guilty for not agreeing with the masses...
312741 When I think of Star Swirl the bearded I kinds think of him as a mix between Gandalf/Merlin/and Dresden. Dresden just because badass and very chilvarous, and Merlin because hes wise and mysterious, and you've already done Gandalf beautifully so you'd only have to add some of Merlin and Dresden's traits to him.
I dont think that's actually true. I think amnio is a medical term and the show just thought it was a cool name.

Eh, Gandalf wasn't really 'Human' to begin with. That old man body is more like a 'vessel' to a higher spirit of magic that can, if need be, recreated by the powers they serve. It's how he became the new 'White', after Saruman abandoned his mission to serve Sauron...
So yeah, it's more along the lines of 'Non-native Magical Being in Equestria'.
And truth to be told, I only stumbled on this info when looking up 'Istari' due to "The Last Mage" on this site...
And awesome idea, I really can't wait to see what you've planned for this fic...
That's not what Amnio actually means
I know this is old, but I think amnio is referring to amniotic fluid (the fluid the babies are in inside their mother).
Starswirl tried to raise the sun on his own and failed. He might have then tried to find a way to make a more powerful pony, either himself or another, one that would be able to do so, in the process he may have discovered that he couldn't do so with a normal pony and so deciding to try granting power to foals or even creating foals with powers, in the process developing a spell to modify or create unborn foals, and used them to make Celestia and Luna.
It fits the timeline as far we know. Starswirl was alive from before Equestria (and thus before Celestia and Luna) to during Celestia and Luna's lives. So timing fits and he did want to single-hoofedly control the sun, which is the motivation.
This would also explain why Celestia and Luna are the only two ponies born as alicorns.
ALTERNATIVELY, the reference to the unborn could be referring to uncast spells, thus meaning a type of spell that could that could be prepared, then modified prior casting.
