The Equestrian Event - Context · 3:07am Mar 8th, 2016
This blog addresses some questions that may be asked about the Equestrian Event.
Crossover Aspects - It may be unknown to some readers, but the Equestrian Event is a Dead Space crossover story. Well, it is in a sense. I'm not using characters from Dead Space, nor am I placing the ponies in the world of Dead Space. I'm simply using aspects of the DS universe in my story. Things like the Marker and Unitologist cult are some of the main driving plot points, along with certain technologies.
The "OC" Dilemma - I'll start off by saying that I'm not a fan of the term "OC." The letters bring to mind over powered pony characters, horrible color pallets, and terrible origin stories. With an "OC," many assume it's a pony. "Original Character" on the other hand, has a different feeling to it. I know it may not make sense to some, but it does to me. My "Original Character," Jay, is a human. He's not from the DS universe or the MLP universe. He is entirely original. Another problem with "OC's" or "Original Characters," is the tendency to give them anything they want. Yes, yes, we know. Mary Sue and Gary Stu are a slippery bunch. One of my main goals while writing Jay's character is to have him be revealed. He's an open book that forgets to tell you it's the third one in the series. I won't go into much, but I'm not writing him to be liked or hated. Jay is Jay. He will remain Jay, despite what others want.
Maintaining Continuity - One problem with fan fiction writing is the rules you must adhere to. I've set my timeline to be one year after Luna's return. This means less character development rules and more importantly, no Princess Twilight. The problem is, I still am attempting to maintain a show accurate timeline. The bottom line is, regardless of timeline, I have set up rules for what has and has not happened. The only real outstanding rule, is that Luna has yet to visit Ponyville on Nightmare Night. No Luna Eclipsed. This means that she has not been fully integrated back into Equestrian society, so ponies are still suspicious of her. All changes to timeline are for plot purposes. I am however trying my best not to destroy preexisting personalities of your favorite characters.
