Advice Column Issue: #2 · 9:51pm Feb 22nd, 2016
I've decided to post these posts on Mondays now.
Today, we have only one question, but I feel like someone else sent me one, and I forgot. If you sent me a question and you're not ShadowStorm7, ArtColter (the one who's question I am presenting now), or our anonymous person who's question I reviewed last week, PM me about it, and I'll find your question.
That being said, if you have a problem/question, do not hesitate to tell me! I want this Advice Column to be an actual weekly thing, and I don't want to have to skip out on it because of a lack of questions.
Now, like I said, our question today comes from ArtColter, who writes:
(First, I think this is a fun idea. Hope you get lots of messages.)
Aw, thanks.
Greetings. This is Art Colter, and I'm hoping to get some advice from Miss Rarity. Feel free to use my name.
I really enjoy writing, it's one of the few things I'm actually good at. But lately I have been feeling "weighed down" creatively. There is so much I want to write, publish, and express, but I'm not feeling very confident in my ability to do so the way I want. On top of that, I feel like I'm letting people down by not being as prolific as I should be. Any advice on how to feel positive about my work again and regain my creative mojo? Thank you.
Well, why aren't you confident? Are you worried people will dislike it? That's something you shouldn't worry about, because everyone has their own opinions. That could be doubtful, because you said writing is something you're good at. If you think you're letting people down, then ask them! You never know unless you ask. If they say you aren't, then you shouldn't be worried. If they say you are, then all you have to do is work harder on your stories. Make sure pacing is fine, make sure the characters aren't Mary Sues/Gary Stus, things like that. I'm pretty sure you are prolific, you just need to get your writing on and see for yourself!
Darling, like Stardom said, you need to ask these people how they feel. You'll keep doing the wrong thing over again if you don't. Remember Suited for Success, and that situation I was in? You never know unless you ask, and improve. Like Star also said, you also seem great, you just need that little writing boost for you to have proof! Ta-ta!
ArtColter, we have spoken! Our advice for you is to ask if you are letting your readers down, and to get a boost on writing so you have more confidence!
Thank you for your questions, and for reading this issue!
Thanks for the response. Thinking about it in more depth, I'm not sure exactly what's wrong with me. Perhaps I put too much importance on what other people think. I mean, I rarely get negative feedback, but anytime I do, it just crushes my will. Or perhaps I'm struggling with the meaning of writing, by which I mean the question of whether or not writing is doing anything for me in the long-term. Or maybe I'm just fucking lazy.

No. Don't get mad at negative feedback, especially if it's constructive criticism. Don't be one of those IDGAF guys. They're annoying. You've probably gotten over it, I just wanted to tell you that.
3771989 I don't get mad at any feedback. But sometimes I do take it too personally. I care a lot about what I write and how people respond to what I write. I just want to know that I am good at something, even if it's only one thing, and even if that one thing doesn't really matter.

Don't get upset by it, then. Sometimes, negative comments are more helpful than the positive ones cheering you on.

PM please, if you don't PM, I will assume you don't want to be anonymous, since you're publicly stating it.

Alright!
