Story confidence · 8:25am Feb 18th, 2016
So, last night I was able to submit a story that was...well, I had no confidence in it.
I mean, I knew it had decent grammar, and I was sure that it would gain a couple up-votes along the way, but I wasn't comfortable with it as its author. It was an okay story, but not what I wanted.
There's one thing that I've learnt from this, which I wish to share: just because you have an idea for a story, doesn't make it a good one. It will require some development. Even though I've had ideas that have potential to be funny, I just can't piece anything together. Am I saying give up when the going gets tough? No; just alter your approach, maybe.
I've had ideas for troll fictions and slice-of-life stories that are funny or nice, but materialising them is another matter.
In this case, I was writing a story that was supposed to poke fun at internet culture; just something light with a couple truths in it to which you can nod your head. Well, it didn't turn out that way. What had originally supposed to be 'trolly', turned out to be a tacky ad for internet safety.
I felt good about it, certainly satisfied with the effort put in, but I knew it wasn't what I'd intended.
After some feedback, I decided to take it down.
Not because I felt it was really bad, but like said, I had no confidence in it.
I look to be writing better stories in future. Have a nice day!
Marshall.
Good to see someone else struggles to make the reality of good ideas from time to time.
