Shadowmane PX-41

Just your average british lad. I write things for a living. It’s the strangest living you’ll ever find, second only to my inability to take myself off of the grid.

Adfic Calender Final Day · 7:36pm Dec 25th, 2015

Shadowmane PX-41's Adfic Calender

Christmas Day...

Ahh... What better way to end the Adfic Calender? A Christmas story on Christmas Day, about Luna's very first Hearth's Warming with her sister, Celestia?

The final entry in the Adfic Calender is Merry Hearth's Warming, Luna!, by Foals Errand.

Now, I know what you're thinking. "This is the last day of the Adfic Calender. What could possibly be a better read than what you gave us last week?" Well, to answer your question, I'm saying this fic, for being one that touched me in a special way that no other story has.

Since her banishment to the moon and her reformation 1,000 years later, Luna has never celebrated Hearth's Warming, let alone with her big sister. The first thing being that the holiday didn't exist whilst she was locked away on the surface of the moon, and the second being that ponies treated it like a holiday.

As the time passes, Luna is unaware that her sister has been preparing for the holiday ever since. And if her old-timey dialogue isn't enough, this was long before Luna Eclipsed, where Twilight showed her a more sociable and loveable side to the rest of her subjects.

However, she is interested in the holidays and decides to curiously look and help with what is going on. This includes decorating a tree, dressing up as Santa and Rudolph, and even making a card for Celestia. And on the next morning, the two of them sit by the fire and open their presents like sister and sister.

Celestia gives Luna a page of a book that had been salvaged long since her outrage as Nightmare Moon. This causes her to feel sentimental value towards it, as she admits that it was before her gruesome transformation. Luna, in return, gives Celestia a craftwork of her moon, intertwined with her sister's sun. And as they listen to the Heart Carol on the outside, the two of them wish each other a happy Hearth's Warming.

I personally enjoyed this story mainly because it showed how curious Luna was to the changes around her. Much like a toddlier is intrigued by the different rooms they see in their parents' house, Luna was interested in what Hearth's Warming was, and that it involved a tree, present making, and merry festivities.

Her olden dialogue does seem hard to process at first, but you can eventually catch the general gist of what she's trying to say. It in turn, gives Luna a sense of depth. Not only has she been away for so long, but she has never forgotten the words of her old self before the catastrophic events that unfolded when she was Nightmare Moon.

The sweet bonding between the two sisters is the final touch that makes this story a sweet one for the holiday season. Celestia knows that what Luna went through was hard, and Luna, in return, was just as touched to make Celestia happy as she could be. It's the relation that these two share, even after that battle, that still tugs at the heartstrings, even to this very day and age.

Wow. I just... Even I can't believe that I made it through the whole of Christmas, reading twenty-five different stories, reviewing them all in great detail, and slapping them onto the Adfic Calender.

Now, on a more personal note, I will say that 2015 has been one of my best years.

It's had some ups, and it's had some downs. Both on FIMFiction and off of it. The friends I've made, and the enemies that I now spite, but I have the feeling that next year is going to put all of this to shame. And I really want to share a really big thank you to all of my followers.

To all 267 of you wonderful, loveable, friendly people, I want to thank you for everything you've done. I would not be the same person without your constant support, gracious comments, and amazing affection for when I felt down in the dumps. Truly, FIMFiction would not be as fun and exciting without you guys and gals.

And now that everything's been said and done, I think it's time for us all to take the break that we all so desperately deserve. We work ourselves to the bone, writing stories and pleasing our masses. We constantly strive to better ourselves and become respected, proud, and helpful members of the writing community.

But this, to me, has been FIMFiction at it's absolute peak. We've made and read some fantastic stories, pleased millions of bronies across the planet with our incredible talent for both storytelling and grammar, and carved our legacies into the pages of legend for 2015. And now, it's time for all of that to come to a close, as next week, will be the beginning of a new year. A new start, another piece of paper on the stack.

It will be 2016, where we will have more ups and downs, more happy moments, and more time of heartbreak and sadness. But despite what comes, we will face it all together as friends. For we are the brony fandom. We stand strong in the face of intimidation, and do not yield to all of the hate that we get from both inside and out. And every time we get knocked down by someone, we just keep building ourselves back up and getting better than ever before!

So from me, my family, and all of my plushies and friends here in the castle, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

And I'll be back to writing stories in 2016, so expect to see a new and improved Shadowmane PX-41.

Have a good night.
