Just your average british lad. I write things for a living. It’s the strangest living you’ll ever find, second only to my inability to take myself off of the grid.

Day 23...

It's almost Christmas Eve, so I was thinking of a more Christmassy story to share with you guys today. That's why today's read is An Equestrian Girls Christmas Carol by discordneal14...

While I do have to admit that it does feel like a Christmas Carol clone, I think that it's one done really well. While Sunset adopts the role of Ebenezer Scrooge – minus the job and the complete hate of her friends and everyone else around her – she's visited by three spirits of the holiday, just like in the story.

Sunset's not really one for celebrating the holiday season because in the past, her father couldn't spend any time with her due to the fact that he had to work so hard during one Hearth's Warming. Because of this, Sunset now has a hatred for the holiday, as well as everyone trying to get her to celebrate it.

Now I keep hearing the accusations that Sunset's parents are either dead, missing, or both. From where I'm standing, I don't think it really matters, considering how mature everyone from both Equestria and the human world act. You could very well say that everyone's parents are dead and that they all have to do the hard work themselves, but then again, that's bonkers, and I'm more of a serious guy at heart.

Sunset is visited by the Spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, which are basically Discord, Discord, and, well, Discord again. Now, I'm not saying that it's bad that he's all three. In fact, Discord actually does a great job as all three spirits at once. Showing the past, present, and future of the holidays to the best extent.

He also shows that because Sunset pushed away her friends as well as the holiday cheer they tried to bring, she attracted the Windigoes from Equestria to the Human World, and have now trapped everyone at CHS due to the endless blizzard that now roars through the town. What's more, if she can't accept the holidays, then all of her friends will move away, and her city will become a frigid wasteland of violent snowfall and roaring winds.

While I will admit that there are Frozen references in this story, I'm willing to let it off the hook because it's Christmas. It's a time to show feelings, compassion, and to help other people so that you can be rewarded with their generousity. Sunset eventually learns all of this and rushes off to save her friends from the violent grip of the Windigoes' spell.

Now, this story, albeit a little rushed, does a lot of things well, and doesn't seem smushed. The writing is sub-par, and despite the lack of length, it makes Sunset a good character, to some great extent. Despite her hate of the season, she's still the same girl, even if the things she does make you want to hurl. Accepting it at the end is a wonderful resolution, as friendship – to a major crisis – is always the best solution.

So as you open this story and sit down by the fires tonight, be sure that you wish your family and friends a wonderful night. They'll need it because tomorrow is the start of the true cheer. So wrap up your presents, because CHRISTMAS IS HERE!

TOMORROW'S CHRISTMAS EVE!

I'M SO EXCITED!
