    Happy 2015!

Hey all  Just wanted to wish everypony a pleasant new year and happy tidings as we again start anew. Having a pretty good 2015 so far, as I was able to finish and submit the first act of Chapter 1 today, with Act 2 swiftly on the way! I'm excited to share the tale with you all and hope it tickles your fancy.

And on that note, happy writing and take care

Hey, gang  Gotta few blurbs to share with you all, and it's pretty exciting stuff!

First off, I apologize for my absence. I've had plenty of downtime to focus on Phases of Sunset, even amidst a 40-hr job. Admittedly, I've been focused primarily on honing on my art skills, after a long hiatus of 7 years. Sure, I sketched here and there within that time, but lacked the interest to finish anything

Until late winter of this year, when I suddenly had a burst of inspiration to finish a Sunset Shimmer picture I sketched.

This was the result, and shortly after, so was this :twilightblush: Within a matter of minutes, I received so much praise for the picture and by the end of the week, I was totally floored by the feedback and attention it got. This definitely kicked the artist in me right in the ass, and since then, I've been tackling personal art ideas left and right, just trying to adapt new things I learned visually over the years of not doing anything art-related.

To get an idea of what I've done throughout the year, please check out my DeviantArt page here, if you haven't already :twistnerd:

Speaking of which, I should make special mention of the latest piece I've done, which is actually a collab between my best friend Jacky and myself, in which I did the illustration and she, the coloring. Thanks, J!

Now, this picture is very special, for it pertains to a sidestory that will flow alongside a later arc of Phases of Sunset. Not only that, but this piece was created to coincide with a song I commissioned specifically for two primary characters of that sidestory.

The song is called The Siren and the Seamare and if you haven't heard it yet, feel free to check it out here. My deepest thanks go out to Carbon Maestro, the brilliant musical mastermind behind the composition and the video's animation; to the lovely and talented SweetPoffin (Elsie Lovelock), who, much to my astonishment, agreed to lend her beautiful set of pipes to the character Turquesa, and Wubcake, for being so professional and once again, putting others "under her spell" as Adagio Dazzle :raritywink:

Not only did I provide the art, setting and story for the song; I also wrote the lyrics and boy, was that a challenge at times! Still, with perseverance, a lot of faith and moral support, I finished them and came up with the stanzas you hear. I also worked heavily with the vocalists one on one and learned a lot about music, editing and quality control. Such a great experience, filled with knowledge, friendship, laughs and hard work, and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world

Lastly, after I post page one of the Siren/Seamare story in comic form, I will redirect my focus and energy to Act III of the first arc of Phases of Sunset, for there's a piece of music just aching to coincide with that :duck:

As we come into the end new year, I'd love to thank everyone's who's stuck with me thus far. I appreciate your support and look forward to sharing more surprises with you all in the very, very near future

So the side-story isn't going to be on FimFiction?

Well I read that it's going to be in the comic form on your dA page, because if you wrote it out, it might take "forever" XD

Good luck!

Hugs to you for being so awesome you are one of the people that inspire me to write

That song is awesome, both in terms of lyrics and music. I'm not skilled enough at musical interpretation to tell exactly what you did, but you used a rhythm scheme and scale deliberately evoking Medieval and Classical influences, and that slow, increasing and menacing percussion built up to support a spectacular crescendo. As for your lyrics, you evoked sympathy for both of them while keeping them utterly terrifying. Wonderful.
