For grins, I pulled up the community "Featured" list, and sorted the suggested Tags from the 4,310 stories to see what tags were the most likely to be on a featured story. The top results were:
2,491 Teen
1,762 Slice of Life
1,606 Romance
1,601 Comedy
1,497 Main 6
1,436 Human
1,332 Twilight Sparkle
1,305 Alternate Universe
1,264 Princess Celestia
1,020 Princess Luna
971 Sex
The next most popular tag had less than 1/3 as many instances as the bottom of this tag list: Sunset Shimmer at 326.
I sorted the list by the number of words, and accessed the middle page in the list (215 of 431). The median length of all Featured stories was a little over 22K words. The average number of chapters in the stories on the middle page was 7.1. Half of the stories on the middle page were Completed, half were Incomplete.
This suggests that if you want to have your story featured, it should be a 22K word story with 7 chapters featuring an Alternate Universe, Slice of Life, Comedy, Romance, with Teen rated Sex, staring Twilight Sparkle, Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, the Main 6 and a Human.
