Failure. · 10:23pm Aug 16th, 2012
Ya, I screwed up big time at my work... got fired. At least it wasn't because I was lazy or anything, I just 'wasn't cut out to be a cook', is what my managers pitying words were as he said he'd have to 'let me go.'
It hurt, a lot, but I think it's not the money, great hours and great bonuses that I'll miss the most, it's the people I met and befriended there. It hurts so bad knowing I wont be able to see them again. I haven't told my parents yet, but I'm going to have to confront them sometime soon. Damn it all.
After a good internal cry and some time alone, I came to terms with it, I guess. *sigh*
I'm known to be an optimist however, and I've been soothing my frustrations and disappointment with this saying I heard once:
"The word success would not have been invented if the word failure was non-existent''
Without failure, there would never be success; because 'success' is a word that's understood by those who have gone through failure first. I've failed... time to succeed and work with what I've got!
So now I face a problem: I'm not making money anymore. Does anyone know how I might be able to use my writing skills to make money (commissioning, contests, anything)? I need to make money for my post secondary education, where I plan to gain a degree in Professional Creative Writing through a university in Quebec, or a university in Halifax.
Links, tips, gossip... I WANT IT ALL!!!
Pass on any info that you think I could benefit from.
Thanks for your time guys/gals, and keep being awesome!

My dad is a red seal chef
Well you are right, for without success there wouldn't be failure, not only that but if you were able to uphold a decent job and able to carry it out for all this time up until here, then finding a job might not be too hard if you look in the same expertise.

Alrighty Syn, I could give you some tips. But first, I want to see you meeting up with your friends from work!
I want you to call up your manager, asking him if he could get some contact information from your friendly co-workers, and perhaps forming a stronger bond with them, seeing that you will miss your friends. It's only logical, right? Not only that, you'll be able to put your mind at a bit more ease knowing you still have them by your side. So why not give it a shot, asking them for some contact info, like skype, Facebook, Oovoo, or something else that you use.
Anyway; one thing you can do is put your work out there. Put a couple examples out there. I've read enough of your work to know that you will in fact get a couple commissions from the people out on the net. So, go ahead, and put some examples out there, places like DeviantArt, or even here on FIMFictions or somewhere else that you know of. And when people start coming, create a paypal account and such, and get some income. Another way you can get money is one that my GF did, and she was a video game streamer, I don't know whether or not you play games or something or stream at that, but if you become big enough, people will pay you to stream. I would know, because I've seen my GF do it. Any other questions you have or any tips or such, you can message me here, I'm mostly always on and am willing to talk.
Hope everything works out for you mate! I wish you good luck, and happy days.
That's rough man :(
I don't have any ideas except maybe sending short stories into some kind of publication (make a name for yourself)
Good luck finding the right path anyways
Oh man....thats sucks. sory i dont know of of any contests. Sory, wish i could help more
Ah that sucks.
I don't have any advice on how to make money at all mate, I know what its like to be without a job but thankfully my situation is slightly different from yours.
However I can say that you'll find another easily, and that your bosses are making the mistake of letting you go. If you ever need to chat at all mate, drop me a message.

Good luck out there,

291707 Trust me, the idea of keeping in touch with some of the staff is hard-to-come-by. The thing is, they're all older then me; the closes aged staff to me being 22. The ages among the staff span from 22- 35 (and older, I think). When I said befriended, I meant 'established a really great relationship with the staff while at work.' thank you for your fighting words however!
And now, onto your advice! You really got me thinking actually, I'll be posting a journal later on today, where I'll present all the ideas that I've come up with!
291745 Hay there DaMagiks, thanks for the kind comment! I'll see if I might be able to do some publishing.
291810 That's fine, I know your thoughts are with me!
292539 Thanks BMD, your support is much appreciated... as always!
292836 Hay! Long time no talk buddy! Thank you so much for the comment, it really helps when I know there's people out there that care so much! I'll pull through, I know it!
