Some Uncompressed N64 Goodness · 11:58am Dec 12th, 2015

I found this a long time ago. Rare composer Grant Kirkhope posted this, and several other uncompressed pieces from GoldenEye.

Simply put, this is what he composed before he received the N64 dev kit, and had to compress and re-loop them to fit on the cartridge, severely reducing the quality.

I'd like to think this is what we'd hear in a GoldenEye remaster, but I'm also one to admit that the game has not aged well, at all. It was a pioneer of a lot of things (optional mission objectives, stealth elements), but having to stand still to aim manually is a major hindrance in modern shooters.

I didn't even know Kirkhope did the score for Goldeneye. No wonder that soundtrack kicked so much ass.

Even having to compress the music, it didn't suffer overly much for most games. Banjo-Kazooie/Banjo-Tooie still had one of my favorite soundtracks of all time.

Most everything that Kirkhope touches (in terms of soundtrack) is a nigh-masterpiece. I find myself stunned time and again by how intuitive and talented he is. And he stays active, too.

On a very much related note, I'm really psyched about Yooka-Laylee and A Hat in Time.

That is beautiful. You have cranked the hype factor to 11.

3613885 David Wise is also on the sound team, and he did a lot for Donkey Kong Country.

I know David Wise as well. If Wise, Kirkhope, and Ingram all went into a room and produced a joint soundtrack, I would be in heaven. Then again, I can't be certain that Ingram's talent would translate well into a game, or that Wise and Kirkhope could do a movie/TV show.
