"She dazzles like a bird flying gallantly in the sky." - Ponyville Express

Once in a while, I have presented a filly or a colt whom everyone likes so well that that filly or colt's voice is something that would be heard by everyone for a long time. Melody is that kind of filly. Her brand of performances, "songs that fillies my age would probably sing", as she puts it, has won her enduring fame around the world, and has opened up the doors for her to sing to cheering crowds of ponies and people the world over.

This, her second album, opens with its title track, and goes on to include such songs as "Wonderful! Wonderful!", "A Lover's Concerto", and "Happiness Is", the latter of which is from the wonderful production You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown -- based on the wonderful work of Charles Schulz, who will forever be famous for drawing someone who is, indeed, a good man.

Melody, of course, is more than just a good singer. She's a fantastic one. Just ask the Foal Free Press, who has labeled her "one of the greatest young vocal talents to come around in such a long time." I guarantee you'll come to that conclusion as well.

1 Sentimental Journey (Butera-Prima)

Gonna take a sentimental journey
Gonna set my heart at ease
Gonna make a sentimental journey
To renew old memories

I've got my bag and got my reservation
Spent each dime I could afford
Like a child in wild anticipation
Long to hear that "All aboard"

Seven, that's the time we leave
At seven, I'll be waiting out for heaven
Counting every mile of railroad track
That takes me back

Never thought my heart could be so yearning
Why did I decide to roam?
Got to take this sentimental journey
Sentimental journey home

I said at seven, that's the time we leave
At seven, I'll be waiting out for heaven
Counting every mile of railroad track
That takes me back

I never thought my heart could be so yearning
Why did I decide to roam?
Got to take this sentimental journey
Sentimental journey home

2 Wonderful! Wonderful! (Raleigh-Edwards)

Sometimes we walk hand in hand by the sea
And we breathe in the cool salty air
You turn to me with a kiss in your eyes
And my heart feels a thrill beyond compare

Then your lips cling to mine
It's wonderful, wonderful
Oh, so wonderful, my love

Sometimes we stand on the top of a hill
And we gaze at the earth and the sky
I turn to you and you melt in my arms
There we are, darling, only you and I

What a moment to share
It's wonderful, wonderful
Oh, so wonderful, my love

The world is full of wondrous things, it's true
But they wouldn't have much meaning without you

Some quiet evening I sit by your side
And we're lost in a world of our own
I feel the glow of your unspoken love
I'm aware of the treasure that I own

And I say to myself
"It's wonderful, wonderful
Oh, so wonderful, my love!~"

3 Gentle On My Mind (Hartford)

It's knowing you don't try to buy my freedom with some promise made of gold
That for you my door stays open and our love becomes a simple two way street

And it's knowing we're not shackled by forgotten words and bonds and the ink stains that have dried upon some line
That keeps you on the back roads by the rivers of my memory that keeps you ever gentle on my mind

It's not clinging to the rocks and ivy planted on some column now that binds us
Or something that somebody said because they thought we fit together walking

It's just knowing that the world will not be cursing or forgiving when I'm drifting through the market place and find
That you're moving on the back roads by the rivers of my memory, and for hours, you're just gentle on my mind

Well the wheat fields and the clothes lines and the junkyards and the highways come between us
And some other woman crying to her mother 'cause she turned and you were gone

I still might walk for hours, tears of joy might stain my face and a summer sun might burn me 'til I'm blind

But not to where I cannot see you moving on the back roads by the rivers flowing gentle on my mind

The shutters creek and autumn winds
That make me draw inside myself in silence
Cause now I sit and watch
The endless chase of leaves across my yard

And laying down my hair brush, I lean back within my window seat and find, That you're moving on the back roads
By the rivers of my memory, ever smiling, ever gentle on my mind!~

4 Who Can I Turn To (When Nobody Needs Me)
(Bricusse-Newley)

Who can I turn to when nobody needs me?
My heart wants to know and so I must go where destiny leads me
With no star to guide me and no one beside me
I'll go on my way and, after the day, the darkness will hide me

And maybe tomorrow I'll find what I'm after
I'll throw off my sorrow, beg, steal, or borrow my share of laughter
With you I could learn to, with you what a new day
But who can I turn to if you turn away?

And maybe tomorrow I'll find what I'm after
I'll throw off my sorrow, beg, steal, or borrow my share of laughter
With you I could learn to, with you what a new day
But who can I turn to if you turn away?

5 The Impossible Dream (Darion-Leigh)

To dream the impossible dream ...
To fight the unbeatable foe ...
To bear with unbearable sorrow ...
To run where the brave dare not go ...
To right the unrightable wrong ...
To love pure and chaste from afar ...
To try when your arms are too weary ...
To reach the unreachable star ...

This is my quest, to follow that star ...
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far ...
To fight for the right, without question or pause ...
To be willing to march into Hell, for a Heavenly cause ...

And I know if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest,
That my heart will lie will lie peaceful and calm,
when I'm laid to my rest ...
And the world will be better for this:
That one man, scorned and covered with scars,
Still strove, with his last ounce of courage,
To reach the unreachable star!~

6 People (Cahn-Styne)

People,
People who need people,
Are the luckiest people in the world

We're children, needing other children
And yet letting a grown-up pride
Hide all the need inside
Acting more like children than children

Lovers, very special people
They're the luckiest people in the world

With one person
One very special person
A feeling deep in your soul
Says you were half now you're whole
No more hunger and thirst
But first, be a person who needs people
People who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world!~

1 Happiness Is (Gesner)

Happiness is
Finding a pencil.
Pizza with sausage.
Telling the time.
Happiness is learning to whistle.
Tying your shoe for the very first time.

Happiness is playing the drum in your own school band.
And happiness is walking hand in hand.

Happiness is
Two kinds of ice cream.
Knowing a secret.
Climbing a tree.
Happiness is five different crayons.
Catching a firefly.
Setting him free.

Happiness is being alone every now and then.
And happiness is coming home again.

Happiness is
morning and evening,
Daytime and night time too.

For happiness is anyone and anything at all
That’s loved by you.

Happiness is
Having a sister.
Sharing a sandwich.
Getting along.

Happiness is singing together when day is through,
And happiness is those who sing with you.

Happiness is
Morning and evening,
Daytime and nighttime too.

For happiness is anyone and anything at all
That’s loved by you.~

2 A Lover's Concerto (Linzer-Randell)

How gentle is the rain that falls softly on the meadow,
Birds high up the trees serenade the clouds with their melodies

Oh, see there beyond the hill, the bright colors of the rainbow.
Some magic from above made this day for us just to fall in love.

Now, I belong to you from this day until forever,
Just love me tenderly and I'll give to you every part of me.

Oh, don't ever make me cry through long lonely nights without us.
Be always true to me, keep this day in your heart eternally.

One day we shall return to this place upon the meadow.
We'll walk out in the rain, see the birds above singing once again

Oh, you hold me in your arms, and say once again you love me,
And if your love is true, everything will be just as wonderful.

You'll hold me in your arms, and say once again you'll love me,
And if your love is true, everything will be just as wonderful.

And if your love is true, everything will be just as wonderful!~

3 With A Song In My Heart (Hart-Rodgers)

With a song in my heart
I behold your adorable face.
Just a song at the start
but it soon is a hymn to your grace.
When the music swells
I'm touching you hand
It tells that you're standing near, and ..
At the sound of your voice
heaven opens it's portals to me.
Can I help but rejoice
that a song such as ours came to be?
But I always knew
I would live life through
with a song in my heart for you.

With a song in my heart
I behold your adorable face.
Just a song at the start
but it soon is a hymn to your grace.
When the music swells
I'm touching you hand
It tells that you're standing near, and ..
At the sound of your voice
heaven opens it's portals to me.
Can I help but rejoice
that a song such as ours came to be?
But I always knew
I would live life through
with a song in my heart for you.~

4 Try To Remember (Jones-Schmidt)

Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh, so mellow.
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and grain was yellow.
Try to remember the kind of September
When you were a tender and callow fellow.
Try to remember, and if you remember,
Then follow.

.

Try to remember when life was so tender
That no one wept except the willow.
Try to remember when life was so tender
That dreams were kept beside your pillow.
Try to remember when life was so tender
That love was an ember about to billow.
Try to remember, and if you remember,
Then follow.

Deep in December, it's nice to remember,
Although you know the snow will follow.
Deep in December, it's nice to remember,
Without a hurt the heart is hollow.
Deep in December, it's nice to remember,
The fire of September that made us mellow.
Deep in December, our hearts should remember
And follow.~

5 The Boy Next Door (Blane-Martin)

The moment I saw him smile
I knew he was just my style
My only regret is we've never met
Though I dream of him all the while

But he doesn't know I exist
No matter how I may persist
So it's clear to see
There's no hope for me

Though I live at fifty-one-thirty-five Kensington Avenue
And he lives at fifty-one-thirty-three

How can I ignore the boy next door?
I love him more than I can say
Doesn't try to please me, doesn't even tease me
And he never sees me glance his way

And though I'm heart-sore, the boy next door
Affection for me won't display
I just adore him so I can't ignore him
The boy next door!~

6 Halfway to Paradise (Goffin-King)

I want to be your lover
But your friend is all I've stayed
I'm only halfway to paradise
So near, yet so far away

I long for your lips to kiss my lips
But just when I think they may
You lead me halfway to paradise
So near, yet so far away, mmm

Bein' close to you is almost heaven
But seein' you can do just so much
It hurts me so to know your heart's a treasure
And that my heart is forbidden to touch, so

Put your sweet lips close to my lips
And tell me that's where they're gonna stay
Don't lead me halfway to paradise
so near, yet so far away!~
