First Impressions: Cutie Re-Marking · 8:57pm Nov 30th, 2015
Well, MLP did what it does best: pull off an awesome season finale! Out of all of them, I think this one’s my favorite, even more than “Twilight’s Kingdom”. And let’s be honest, we all knew Starlight Glimmer was going to come back, it was friggin’ obvious. However, the fact that she was easily able to change one of Starswirl’s most complicated spells kind of reeks of bullshit. But, definitely the most interesting part of the episode was the alternate timeline thing. I’ll admit, I’m a big sucker for the genre of alternate history/timeline, as evidenced by my love for Bioshock Infinite. I love the idea of changing one little moment in time change the entire outcome of history. And a lot of these alternate timelines were really cool, and I might use a few for fanfics (as half of Fimfiction has been doing since the finale premiered).
However, before I spend the rest of this gushing over the alternate history stuff, I have to talk about Starlight Glimmer. Her backstory is just kind of “meh”, as it feels really… unrealistic for Equestria. She knows how cutie marks work, and the fact that this sunburst guy went to Canterlot to study magic shouldn’t have surprised her. And her redemption after Twilight’s speech feels really forced, plus it doesn’t feel like she deserves it. She’s done some pretty awful things, like her cult and the fact that she was willing to screw up the future in order to satisfy her own petty revenge scheme. Song’s annoying too, so that’s a bonus to how much I don’t like the ending.
Eh, I’m done rambling. Despite the fact that I didn’t really like the ending, I still really like finale. What did you guys think? Let me know.
As for what I’ll do now… dunno’. Maybe I’ll find something else to do first impressions on until the next season, maybe not. I’m currently in the process of applying for Rage Reviews, so that’ll hopefully keep me busy. Until next time, I’m the Stallion with the Metal Hoof, stay classy.
