Miss Koi Reviews The Season 5 Finale · 6:31pm Nov 28th, 2015

My Hyped Face before the episode premiered:

*through my gritted teeth* tell me when finale comes on.
My face/reaction after the episode:

Oh man, where do I even begin with this episode?!XD
Well, let's start with the basic premise. Using Star Swirl the Bearded old time traveling spell (that can only take a pony about a week into the past), Starlight Glimmer modified the spell by using the Map's magic and power to travel back in time to stop Rainbow Dash's filly's Sonic Rainboom from ever happening. Thus, the main six never get their true cutiemarks and their friendship never comes to be. Starlight even modified the spell that, knowing Twilight would follow her, trapped Twilight either in the past with her or in one of the crazy futures in result of the Starlight's actions in past. However, Starlight only traveled to the future with Twilight when Twilight forced her to go with her. Starlight didn't go to the many possible futures, only stayed in the past. (This is a very interesting metaphor for Starlight because one of the reasons why she is the way she is IS because Starlight always lingers about the past. She cares so much about what happened in the past that she lets her present and future be decided by this. This would explain why Starlight didn't mind being trapped in physical past with filly Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy.)

I know right? All this may seem confusing, but trust me, this episode explains all this time stuff and spells before than I can:/
Is it just me or was the whole Star Swirl week ago time spell a reference to the comics? Let me know if I'm right or just imagining things.
Anyway, for me, the biggest highlight of this episode had to be all the crazy Alternate Universe futures that Twilight traveled through. Not only did they bring back Nightmare Moon, but also Chrysalis and Sombra and Tirek and The Film Flam Brothers and more!:D Don't get me wrong, it was horrible that Equestria and our favorite ponies were in these hopeless and bleak futures but...OH MY GOSH THEY WERE SOOO EPIC THOUGH!:D
If I had to pick a "favorite" Alternate Universe, it would be a tie between the Sombra one...

(Just simply because we got some excellent fight scenes, solider version of Rainbow & Pinkie Pie & Maud, the ponies in Equestria were resisting the war front kinda like the era of World War 1, and Celestia in combat mode. The only down side was that Sombra didn't talk. Really Hasbro?! Really?!)
The Chrysalis one..

(Just simply because Zecora in this universe was the most epic thing that any pony had ever seen:D! I mean, even her mowhawk grew taller with her epicness;) After all the seasons of not giving you enough screen time, they finally did in this episode. Bravo Hasbro, bravo. I mean, who else would battle Chrysalis all by herself? Zecora did;))
And of course The Discord one;)

(Although, one of the downsides...well I shouldn't call it a downside but rather a fangirl nitpick on my part...is that we only got one glimpse, just one second, of the AU where Discord rules over Equestria chaotically. I understand that we can't have John De Lancie voicing Discord all the time, but...but still! All that I can say is...fanfic writers get on this now!)
In fact, this entire episode basically with all it's AUs and development with Starlight Glimmer and potential missing info is just a gold mine for fanfic writers;)

(Oh man, I need a poster of this in my room:3)

The most interesting part about this episode, was not only the stunning visuals for the time traveling spells and the different looks for the alternate universes, but the character of Starlight Glimmer herself. Just like in the premier, she still had an air of mystery to her and what her true plans are. This episode revealed, at least from I interpreted it to be, that Starlight only wants to get rid of the Mane Six friendship for the sake of revenge of what happened to her town and to get rid of what reminds her of the past. Her back story revealed that when she was a filly, she had a best friend named Sun Burst. When he got his cutiemark in magic, he was sent to Celestia's School for Gift Unicorns and she was left alone in her town. To me, she's like Moondancer. Probably so shy and quiet as a filly that she clinged on to the one friend she had like Moondancer did with Twilight. But when she lost that one friend, she shut herself out from the world and other potential friends she could have. The irony of it all, unlike Moondancer, is Starlight became probably a greater unicorn of magic than her friend Sun Burst. So, all that Starlight wants as an adult is not necessary the entire Equestria under her rule, but a small world of her own where every pony is equal and her friend. And to also adopt the mentality that "If I can't be happy and have a friendship with some pony who's different, then no pony can!" Thus, leading to Starlight to her diabolical plot for the Sonic Rainboom.
The only thing missing from her backstory was how Starlight learned to be a skilled unicorn in the first place. I mean, how did she learn the cutie mark spell and the time traveling spell? How did she get her hooves on Star Swirl's spell in the first? I hope that in Season 6...WAIT! SPOILERS! I need to wait for Season 5 Assessment/ Season 6 Wish List blog first before spilling out my hopes for MLP. (This blog will probably be posted either later today or tomorrow;))
And then, the episode nicely finishes with not only Starlight joining the forces of good, but in a sense becoming Twilight's pupil in magic and becoming part of the Mane Six's journey in spreading friendship across Equestria. Please Hasbro, give Discord his throne first before Starlight's throne!

We even end the episode with a great new song (which I was not expecting at all0-0) and the most adorable montage with Starlight being friends with the Mane Six:3 <3 Daww! One of the cutest moments in the series so far!XD

This episode is definitely on my list of well done season finales (A Canterlot Wedding & Twilight's Kingdom). It was well paced, action packed, funny, touching, heart warming, satisfying yet gets you excited for the next season:D I definitely give this 10 hearts out of 10 <3
All that it's missing is a confirmed date of when Season 6 is suppose to premier and a Starlight Glimmer x Double Diamond shipping moment. But I'm sure that...No Wait! Spoilers again for my list! Argh!
So, be on the look out my dear followers and comment below on your favorite parts from the Season 5 Finale:)
