The Mane Attraction Thoughts (Spoilers) · 5:44pm Nov 21st, 2015
The staff of the show really seemed to be making a big deal about Lena Hall being in this episode, and even some of the fans as well. The thing is, I still have no idea who she is. i looked it up, and she's a Broadway actor, I guess? Can someone please tell me why she is such a big deal? I mean, yeah, she did have a really nice voice, but is there something I missed? Or was it just promotional hype making it seem like a big deal? Anyways, onto the episode.
I liked it, certainly not the most amazing episode ever, but it was indeed a good one. Countess Coloratura or Rara was actually a really great character in my opinion. Although she seems to have some issues with naivety along with letting others push her around for the sake of fame (but hey, every good character needs flaws) she's kind, charitable, friendly, and seems to be a truly great pony in general. I'm assuming it won't happen, but I honestly feel as though it would be nice to see more of her. I want to see her character developed further and her reactions to other situations. But as I said, I don't think that's going to happen. The manager pony, I don't remember his name, he was savage. I mean, seriously, he could technically be considered a minor villain for all that he did in that episode. In a way, it's actually fairly easy to compare him to a male version of Trixie. He's demanding, full of himself, arrogant, and only wants fame, in this case, Coloratura's for the benefits it brings to himself rather than to what it could potentially bring to others. So yeah, they're almost identical, new ship anyone? Anyways, onto the moral, this is one that we hear quite often, especially in shows intended for a younger audience. This is most likely due to the fact that it's a good one. We all want to be famous, but if you do end up getting that far, you can't let that fame change who you truly are. Along with that, changing yourself and living a lie only to become famous is just as bad.
Besides that, there wasn't really anything minor I saw that was worth noting. This one seemed quite bit more focused on the story and singing than anything else, which I certainly don't mind at all. That, or I was simply more interested in the story and didn't notice the small stuff. Speaking of the singing, I only enjoyed one song, the last one. Not the anthem but the "I Am Just a Pony" one. I'm not sure if that's what it's called, but I'll go with it. I loved the music in it along with the singing and lyrics. All of that combined made a really beautiful song. One thing that did annoy me though, was the fact that the animation of Coloratura's hooves hitting the keys on the piano didn't match up with the piano in the song one bit. The synchronization of animation, or even just video, to it's audio is something I just can't handle. Even when it's just slightly off, for example, you're watching a show and the voices are slightly behind or ahead of the movement of the character's lip, I'll end up not watching it. I'll just say fuck it and stop because it gets on my nerves that much, haha. Anyways, I think that's all I've got.

She's a big deal on Broadway, I think I dunno. But you gotta like stage musicals.
Also, there's only one place to experience Broadway musicals... and MPEGs really do not do that experience justice.
I mean, before Frozen, would the name Idina Menzel really ring a bell for you? Unless you were thrilled already from her stage performances in Wicked?
Now every girl age 2-20 knows her.
I noted that Pinkie was in top form this eps. This was basically the Rara And Pinkie Pie eps, with Applejack doing what she does best - being the straight mare and holding up the foundations of the plot without calling much viewer attention to herself. Her scene cranking the apple peeler machine was basically the one instance where I said "Ha, that one's new."
And that's why Lena Hall is notable. If you put yourself in a place where you can hear her sing a story, that is.
This eps was a standard trope plot, but just that song put tears in my eyes and made me want a whole eps devoted to Rara.

I'd say that's because it was an Amy Keating Rogers episode (actually her last episode working on MLP. I knew it was coming, but I was still really sad to discover that this was the one.) She's been writing episodes since season 1, and I feel like she was the one who truly created the personality of Pinkie Pie that we know and love now. Without her episodes, I don't think Pinkie's personality would have ever gotten to where it is now. I've actually met Amy in person, and I think the reason why she writes Pinkie so well is because she literally adapted Pinkie to her own personality. She is Pinkie. I've even heard stories that when she's heading to conventions, she'll take a ukulele on the plane with her and just randomly start playing and singing songs. Sounds a lot like Pinkie to me. I'll definitely miss her writing on the show and for Pinkie.
