MLP:FiM S 5 Epi 19 - commentary

So we learn in the first six seconds of the episode that Cadence is FINALLY pregnant! Guess goddesses aren't barren. Too bad this got spoiled by that preview poster.

It's about time.

Pinkie Pie ... -_- This isn't good. This is one of those eps were things spiral out of control and the world and luck are all against her keep it quite isn't it?

Pinkie Pie guessing what Twilight was going to say SHOULD BE able to be brushed as pinkie pie being pinkie. At least Pinie is smart enough to brush it off as that.

Smash Fortune: Wonder who this fiction within fiction pony is.

Ants don't like ponies.

Super Stallion Number 1 eh? And spike just destroyed it. -_- If this was a Spike centric episode, the entire story would be Spike going through the same cycle he did with Owlowcious' first appearance. But since it isn't, the narrative has it be a bit of black comedy instead.

Brutus Force, Smarty Pants' brother we can presume.

And as usual, when Pinkie Pie in the spot light, things take a turn for the worst for her more than the others. Now Rarity is giving Pinkie the 'FOR-EVER!' speech. -_-

So do they just patch in the wall, or does it heal itself?

As usual, when Pinkie Pie is center stage, instead of making the jokes, she become the butt of the jokes.

And the Pinkie Pie Promise is as usual UNBREAKABLE.

The CMC are bored at their character arc being mover and ask for gossip. No good.

Baby carrots are SA's favorite. Got it.

And SA likes ant farms apparently.

And we see the pony conjured into existence who looks just like Fluttershy turned around with funny glasses on her tail.

Rumble, Fry, Twist, filly with glass, filly scout, and Nursery Rhyme all make cameos (Nursery Rhyme would be wearing a life preserver, she's wearing her nurse hat too!).

At least the birthday cake on boat is fun.

I know this is a lesson worth teaching the kids by example of how this can spiral out of control, but NO Pinkie Pie!!!! NO SPOILERS!!!!

And Pinkie Pie flashes back to Rarity (like Pinkie Pie in the mirror, like again, Green isn't you color.)

And I think this episode is about when you SHOULD keep a secret, opposed to Green Isn't Your Color where a kept secret only results in misery.

And Twilight decides to use Pinkie Pie's filling system for the good of Ponyville.

Trust is something hard to build.... and very easy to destroy, and even hard ... often impossible... to ever repair.

First Pinkie Pie failed to look after the giant cake... and now she's proven she can't keep her mouth shut.

I've seriously lost a good deal of respect for Pinkie Pie. I thought after five seasons she's grown stronger than this. -_-

But SA and Cadence save Pinkie Pie's rear at the very last milisecond!

As for Shining Armor.... he realized what was up just as he came in... and... no harm no foul. Thank goodness!

.... But we still have 7 minutes of the show left.

Call back to Spike's screw up that one Superstallion 1 destroyed.

And SA geeking out at Twilight showing SA a room full of his favorite things.

And... instead of the big announcement, it's a scavenger hunt. -_- Did they REALLY need to do this NOW?! I know it's a BIG EVENT, but still!

I just hope it's not gonna takes us another 3 or 4 seasons with Cadence being pregnant due to this 'one year' BS.

The young ones spend this week... obviously school!

And Featherweight is going 'extra extra'... WHAT'S THE EXTRA?! You go 'extra extra' when you have a EXTRA article in the paper that you added TODAY to the previous printing of the paper ALREADY from that day! -_-

And Mayor Mare is now in on the game, and Pinkie Pie stops her from spilling it.

... interesting... AJ's birth certificate? It has AJ's eyes NOT BE the button eyes we've seen ALL THE OTHER BABY PONIES HAVE WHEN WE SAW HER HAVE BUTTON EYES AS A BABY BEFORE! -_-

I liked this episode. Thumbs up.

You get the feeling the writers are trying to wrap things up in case season 6 doesn't go through.

Which makes it all the more annoying they've chosen what it's hinted at they've chosen for the season finale of season 5, that was hinted at the end of Friendship Games. I won't say what, but I'll just say that kind of finale feels like a shaggy dog story, doesn't feel in the spirit of the show.

Actually, the large cake had blue and yellow icing. While there is a minor cultural trend in our own world toward blue=boy, it is by no means prevalent and there was a point in history where blue=girl (in fact, blue does still equal girl in some cases). Furthermore, in equestria pony color is not limited by gender--we've yet to see any pink stallions, yes, but pink on the whole appears to be rare, and most other colors have been seen on both genders.
